Gokarna in October

Hi,

I am planning to hit the beaches of gokarna ( Om, half-moon, paradise .. ) end of october this year. Do you think this is a good time ? Will the beach shacks etc be operational ?

I had been there in early September couple of years back, and there was very little sign of a beach ... at Om too, the amount of sand was very less. The was almost no tourist crowd as well. But friends who went in December raved about the place, so i guess things get spruced up in the touristy season.

Thanks in advance.

You would see just a small crowd, not many. The shacks would be just opening up their business. If you dont like crowd, this is the best time to visit. Check if the weather is good before starting the trip.

Is now (Oct 02 - Oct 05) a good time to visit Gokarna. After reading the posts I figure it's not a good time as it will be raining all the time and the beaches will be more or less non-existant.

But still, please some1 confirm!!

Thanks yathri ... this sounds great.

wildmacaw, i would be rather cautious about next week. This week it has been raining almost on a daily basis in Bangalore, so i don't think the weather would be great

One more question - i am planning to camp out on the beach for a couple of days when i get there. I would probably be doing this on Kudle beach/half-moon/paradise . Does anyone know if it is illegal to pitch a tent there? Do i have to get official permission for this sort of thing ?

There is no need for any official permission, however, you may have to take permission from the Shack owners. In paradise, the shack owner rents tenting area. In kudle & Om, you may have trouble with the officials as this is a more exposed to tourists.
