Gokarna

Hi all,
I had visited Gokarna last year with some friends during May. Now I'm planning to go to Gokarna with just another friend. I have certain queries.. I'm hoping I would get some valuable answers/suggestions
>>I'm planning to stay at Gokarna International at Kudle Beach-Is it safe just for a couple to stay there? We are planning to spend 3 nights and days.
>>Last year we stayed at Gokarna International itself, I didn't quite like the food they served there. It was slightly over priced I thought and wasn't very tasty either. We did visit Namastey Cafe on Om Beach and liked it a lot. Could you please suggest any other places we could get good food which is very affordable. We are planning a very budget trip
>>Is there any way to get to Half Moon and Paradise Beach by road, cause last year when we went we had to trek from the Om beach and some parts were really steep and seemed very dangerous so we didn't continue to the beaches...and just returned back.
>>Are there any other places around Gokarna to visit? We were planning to pay a short visit to Murdeshwara while returning back to Mangalore... We will be taking our return train from there.
>>Which are the places/beaches one mustn't miss while staying at Gokarna?
>>Is this a good season in terms of weather but off season in terms or any tourists. We don't want to reach there to find the place very very crowded!!
Thanks in advance!

It is generally safe. May is a month when most seasonal accommodation would have shut down. I hope the one you intend to stay it will be open. Please check in advance.

No. Walking is the only way.

A good season would obviously be the crowded season! May is generally hot and unbearable in these parts. It won't have the usual backpacker folks for sure, but I would not be sure about local crowds.

Enjoy! I was in Gokarna about 3 years ago. Is the Gokarna International new at Kudle?? Last time I was there 3 years ago (my pics at http://www.gokarna.shutterfly.com - there was a hotel with the same name in Gokarna town itself where I stayed a cpl of nights; but at Kudle there was nothing but shacks. Actually - I wish I had known about staying in the Kudle shacks, I would definitely have skipped the hotel in favor of the shacks on the beach!

Yes - the walks ae fairly steep after Om Beach - but worth it. Make sure you start early in the day so you have the time - I didn't :-(.... till next time!

Do share your experiences here!

Thanks for the info. Yea there is a hotel Gokarna International in the town as well. We saw that too, but we had reservations for the hotel on the Kudle Beach. And the place was very good indeed!

I am back from Gokarna and indeed I had one the best vacations!!
I stayed at Gokarna International Hotel which is on the Kudlee Beach! It had a nice sea view balcony and the service at the hotel was very good.
The Sea View Cafe served excellent food of all cuisines. If you do visit there, make sure you try the french fries and the Banofee Pie!
We rented a bike for Rs 200 and went to the Om Beach, Gokarna Town.
All in all I had an amazing time at Gokarna. Anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to help
Cheers!

Great place for unwinding..

Gokarna is still charming.. Been there last weekend.. The beaches are unspoilt, less crowded. The beach side resorts are very carefull and give accomodation only to couples and foreigners. They seem very safe. The beach side huts are also very cheap and can straight away go there and take the rooms.

Traveling around beaches will be the problem(75/head from one beach to another). But boats are always available if not autos.

Bus stand to om beach auto:100rs..

Other than beach side resorts Gokurna International hotel is present near bus stand at about 6km off om beach. We stayed there for rs 295 for double bed room non ac. booking was not necessary. and was a very decent hotel.

If you are planning a quick trip hire a taxi or two wheeler(available only near bustands). If not, take autos to go around.
Beach side trekking is very dangerous/pathways are not proper now(got eroded/bushes overgrown). No body to guide as well. Do not miss sunset at Gokurna main beach(faces west side) and sunrise at Om beach(faces south side).

Have fun.

(Please dont share your part in polluting the place by adding to garbage and throwing plastics around.)

Wonderful information!!! Many thanks rajered.

Since I will be arriving in a Thursday night, probably a cab might be a good idea (cab availability in Karwar at 3 in the morning?)

Any news about bus services?

But at 3 am im not sure even if you get a cab.
