Gokarna, right about now
Just wanted to see if anyone's there or just arrived from Gokarna. I'm planning to head there with my girlfriend for 3-4 days. Just wanted to see what the weather and beach conditions are like, and options for staying/eating.
Don't have high expectations, but just want to make sure the beach and the shacks aren't completely messed up. Thanks !! |

Dear Sensi,
I called Namaste Cafe and they were open. That's why i specifically asked for opinions from people who've had recent experience. But thanks anyway. |

vmiki5,
I have been there this time last year. Awesome. If you like being one of a very few people on the beach, going to gokarna beaches on a weekday is what you should do. Of course the sea is rough , so be careful about swimming..otherwise i just love gokarna...more in the monsoons ... You are right only Namaste Cafe and Ganesh cafe are there on OM at this time, Kudle I found only one shack open, the one at the start of the beach(if you are coming from main town). Half-moon, I did not find anything. That shack is seasonal Paradise is well paradise. By the way, I heard that there is a Barkha beach after Paradise...Anybody been there? |

Thanks Mighty Zaphod !!
You were absolutely right. The beach was pretty deserted, and only Namaste was open. The sea was way too rough for swimming. However, there were minibuses of indian tourists coming in regularly, especially towards the weekend, and my girlfriend was not too happy with the constant stares, swimsuit or not. But otherwise the ambience was really chill. Highly recommended if you're not going too out of your way to get there. |

vmiki5,
You should have known mate I have been to quite a few places in southern India(or any part for that matter) and whichever place is accessible by road/train/flight will be crowded, more so on weekends. So, point is if you want to enjoy serenity on a beach, go in the monsoon season on a weekday As regards the stares, well u could have gone further north towards half-moon or full-moon(paradise). People there remain busy with their own lives. Very few tourists come here, mostly travellers frequent. Thats the best part about those 2 beaches. But staring is ok I guess(men stare at women even in places of workship) as long as they dont try to act too smart. Even in Goa, even Anjuna has lost its charm. Too many tourists ![]() Like Vagator and upwards. I liked Arambol the most in Goa. Even m planning for gokarna smtime early next month. |

You can find many Bars and Restaurants. So, no need to worry about that.

Basic/Budget accommodation in gokarna,
Guys,
Please let me know about some decent basic/budget accommodation in and around gokarna. I would be there this weekend. How about the accommodation/food costs in gokarna ? Are they as expensive as it is in goa ? Thanks. |
