Going to Madikeri - a few Questions

I'm planning to go there around the end of October or first week of November. Is this the right to go there?

I plan to visit a couple of places but want to keep travel expenses to a minimum (I am a college student). My friend and I plan to stay for 2 days at least. We live in Udupi and plan to take a bus to Madikeri instead of getting a car so that we can save money for future trips!

One of the main places we want to visit is the Buddhist Monastery and the falls (Irpu and Abbey). So can we find transport easily from Madikeri to these two places or are we better off spending more money and hiring a taxi for ourselves?

Also can someone suggest any home stays with a reasonable budget and good service where we can spend our nights?

Thanks!

You can catch a bus to go to the Buddhist monastery, the distance from Madikeri would be around 40 Kms. Abbey falls would be around 8Kms from Madikeri.

I went there in Sept and it was raining, so Nov would be slighly better but the room rents would have increased.

@batistuta

Thanks for the information but would you know what places have reasonable rates? I guess Honey Valley is a decent place since I have seen it mentioned in a couple of other user's experiences on this forum and other ones too.

Can anyone suggest other places too in case we can't get Honey valley?

And also are there other fun things to do in Madikeri? (Will be there for 2 days)

Thanks!

Mate, I stayed in a place called Hill view, Rs500 for a double-bedroom . I have also stayed in Vinayaka lodge ( Right next to the bus stand) .Fun things in Madikeri, Nothing much to do there, (Unless getting totally sloshed can be termed as Fun) . You can go to Tala-Kaveri, Omkareshwara temple, Buddhist monasteries and Abbey falls.

No clue about Honey valley, for More info, You can check this thread out, where read a post, I from your good self.

Thanks again batistuta, I guess getting sloshed can be fun!

I'm an hobby photographer so I know I will be spending a lot of time with the camera, thats one of the reasons I want to visit the Monastery.

How is hill view? how's the service and such? The plan is to go there with at least 4 - 6 people, if we are lucky. So this means that there will at least be 2 girls with us and I wanna make sure that they will be comfortable with where we stay(Or I won't feel comfortable).

Put them in seperate rooms.. and avoid getting at them when you are sloshed.. that should make them comfortable

Well.. Honey Valley is good.. infact there are many many homestays these days.. I would recommend hiring transport at the least for a day when you can do the sight seeing.. and then stay put at the estate taking pics.. or getting sloshed...

Eh.. Seperate rooms is not an issue with us. We are all close family friends and classmates. I just want them to be safe and comfortable where we stay. Honey Valley seems to be the best choice, I sent them an email but haven't heard back from them yet. I want to make sure we can get some nice rooms and such.

If we get about 5 people I am pretty sure we will get our own transport which will make it a lot easier to travel around.

About getting sloshed.. should we buy our own Liqour? Or better to buy it in Madikeri itself?
