Driving guidance from Bangalore to Chikmagalur

Greetings all,
I am driving down to chikmagalur this month end for a couple of days from Bangalore. I need your help on driving directions/guidance. I intend to take the NH4 to Nelamangala and follow on NH48 to Hassan. I have heard conflicting reports on the state of the roads. I am taking my one and half old daughter with me and would be driving myself. Hence wanted to confirm with you folks on best route and anything to avoid/aware of on the way.

Thanks for your help.

how old were those reports.

in 2002 the road between hassan and chikmangalure was really bad.
in 2004 the road was good.

bangalore mangalore road is always good (ghat section is bad at times ,but it will be good till hasan.)

about your daughter; on bumpy section, keep her in the arms and not on the lap. if the arms are raised above the lap, they act as a shock absorber. (i ghess every one knows that, but no harm in reminding)

I have driven to Chikmagalur in October last year. The road is good all the way from Bangalore to Chikmagalur.

Post or during monsoon, now, the road is likely to be iffy.

You are not planning this, I think, but avoid the Arshikere - Kadur route, its usually worse.
