About 12 kms.

The train reaches there by 5:30 AM right? You should get busses and jeeps to take you to Subramanya temple by then.

I wouldnt suggest you to go to kukke subramanya temple right now because the road is under construction. They are constructing about 20 bridges on way to kukke subramanya temple when you take a deviation from mangalore highway. I know this was happening in august last year but do u think it could be over by now considering about 20 bridges and the rainy season etc.
It's better you check out if the road is open before goin to kukke subramanya temple.

The bridges are almost done. And travel ont hat road is not a problem at all!
Of course, Robin. Even crime-fighters must eat. And specially you. You're a growing boy and you need your nutrition.

Just take the night train from Bangalore to Mangalore. At 5.30 AM Train reaches Subramanya Road Station. Get down. From outside you will get Autos. They charge Rs.120 for Family. We went with our two 8 year olds. Jeeps charge less-around Rs.50/- but they cramp it with as many people as possible. Kukke is around 12 kms from station. Auto will reach in about 25 minutes. Many lodges avlbl. Good ones charge Rs.400 onwards near temple. Temple is 100 yards away.Have darshan, then as you circumambulate, you will notice a doorway on left after the Tickets/Info counter. This doorway points way to Adi Subramanya temple which is 3 furlongs away. Have darshan here too. Come back to temple & opposite doorway to Main Deity, go out & you will come onto Kumara Dhara's Darpana Theertha. You may bathe here. From Kukke, you will get buses & Private Vehicles to Dharmasthala. Vehicles charge around Rs.1000/- We found a Tavera driver Praveen who accepted to drop for far less. His Mobile 9480294611. He took us to Dharmasthala in 1 hour and gave us correct guidance on going further to Udipi, Mookambika, Sringeri & Annapurni Temples. We covered these by buses, autos in 2 days flat.
