Dharmasthala to kukke road is pretty good
Kushal nagar to mysore is also in very good shape, if you are going via kushalnagar, golden temple at bylakuppe should not be missed

@Raja,

It's quite some time I drove in that route But I am very sure, the road condition on the Ghat road of MM Hills is going to be poor to worse (Worse in every Hair-pin bend as some brilliant folks made a "Big Digging" in place of speed braker ). With Honda's Ground clearance, be doubly Cautious especially in the ghat roads.

Erode-Mettur-MM Hills (Road super Good till now)-Ghat Road (Poor)- Good and wide until Kollegala .

From Kollegala, there is a Road which joins just 12 kms after Dimbham Ghats (No need to Go to Chamrajnagara) and I did not travelled in this road till now, But the road looked super fine (When I saw from Ch Nagara-Dimbham Road).

Not sure why you want to take a different route to Return to Erode. If possible, Drive to MM Hills. Drive back to Erode in the same route as by this way you are avoiding the horrible Descent from MM Hills towards Kollegala.

Hope this helps.
Regards
Velu

That's too much of a distance and drive you are planning for 3 days Dharshen.

Confirm whether you start from Bangalore and wants to end up in coimbatore so that I can share the related info.

SH 79 seems to be the only logical way to Salem from Mysore.
The way via Bangalore is pretty decent apart from one stretch between Hosur to Krishnagiri ( road work going on and many deviations).
Salem to Yercaud is smooth and excellent road with good banking and safety around the hairpin bends.

Another alternative is Mysore-Nanjangud-Chamarajanagar-Sathyamangalam-Bhavani-Salem-Yercaud. As per Google Maps this is much shorter than going via Bangalore (though about 22 kms longer than the SH79 route). The road should be good all through (I haven't driven on the Nanjangud-CR Nagar or the Sathy-Bhavani route for a while now so not cent percent sure of their condition, but the rest of the roads are excellent).

Also the traffic on this route is quite sparse except for the initial Mysore-Nanjangud stretch and the final stretch on NH47 (Bhavani-Salem). So driving should be less stressful than the SH17-NH7 combo via Bangalore.

Nanjangud-CR Nagar was about half done being resurfaced when I rode it earlier this year. The parts they haven't done yet can be a bit bumpy.

The rest of the above recommended route is in good shape. I've ridden it two or three times in the last couple of years (on a Royal Enfield Thunderbird).

I am doing Karnataka tour mid of december. I will start from Pune. This is how I am likely to travel with my car. Bijapur-Badami-Hospet-Chitradurg-Mysore-Nagarhole-Madikeri-Hassan-Udupi-Karwar-Belgaum. I wanted to know the status of the road and which would be the best route to take.

Due to the Cauvery River water dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, the border road crossing between Sathyamanagalam and Chamrajanagar is closed to all vehicle traffic.

I was at a motorcycle meet in Karnataka this weekend. My fellow bikers from Coimbatore had to go via Palghat and Mangalore (i.e. through Kerala) to get to Karnataka. Doubled their journey distance to attend the meet.

Jean-Philipe, Does that include traffic from Mysore towards Gundlupet - Bandipur - Ooty road also?

Do you think it is safe for a TN registered car in Mysore in this situation?

Sorry, didn't get any reports from my fellow bikers about the Ooty road. But I think the Coimbatore riders would have taken it if it were available. A bit longer than the usual route, but a lot shorter than going via Kerala as they did.

However, the main Chennai-Bangalore highway via Krishnagiri is open.

I haven't heard any cases of TN-registered vehicles being targeted.
