Chennai->belur->hampi->bijapur --- need advice

Hi,

I am planning a 10 day trip to karnataka from chennai this week.
Kindly let me know the changes the following route n plan needs. Is this a good time to visit these places anyway?

[i came up with this plan surfing this forum, if its ridiculous kindly excuse ]

From chennai,

1) Belur/Halebid -> 2 days [covering Shravanabelagola] [Where do i stay btw? Belur or Halebid??]
2) Halebid -> Hampi [covering hampi in 4 days]
3) Hampi -> Badami [2 days]
4) Badami -> Bijapur [1 day]
5) Bijapur -> chennai ???? I am struck here!! its close to 900 kms and i m clueless how to cover it. no trains i suppose.

So, i guess this plan needs some modification like shuffling/dropping some. i am quite open to add/delete any of these except that Hampi is definitely on. I have 10 days. I wish to travel Hampi n around. So any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Madhu

Hi, madhrishi
I think your plan is doable and you don't need to skip any place. You can have an overnight thain from Chennai to Mysore and than have a bus to Hassan. There is a straight train to Arsikere, which is near enough to Halebid-Belur, but it arrives at 1 AM, don't think it's convenient. The same is for train Arsikere-Hospet, there is a straight one, but it start from Arsikere soo late, so I would choose to get from Arsikere to Hubly (lots of trains) and then get to Hampi by bus or train, or even get from Sravanbelgola to Bangalore and catch an overnight train to Hospet. I've heard there are some buses from Hassan to Hospet, but don't know exactly. As for bijaput to Chennai - you can catch a straight train to chennai from Solapur (about 2-3 hours by bus/train).

Have a nice trip!

Hi Madhrishi,

Already Wichy provided the required information.

Only on Belur/ Halebeedu/Shravanabelagola, From Chennai you can get to Bangalore and from there catch a bus to Shravanabelagola [Or Chenrayapatna which is just on Bangalore- Mangalore NH from where Shravanabelagola is 9 kms only] . Once you are done, you can proceed to Hassan from where there are buses to both Belur [ Very frequent buses and all Hassan to Chicmagalur buses passes thru belur] Or to Halebeedu [ Hourly buses from Hassan ] and between Belur and halebeedu, you have many a Share Autos Or even KSRTC buses.

In Short, no need to travel until Mysore from chennai if you didn't planned to visit Mysore as such !

Have a great Trip.

Hi Madhrishi, I am not sure if you should be a visiting Badami and Bijapur this time. Coz after the recent flood in North karnataka. Things may not be smooth. I may be wrong... pls double check. Check my blog for details on sightseeing, distance etc.

regarding bijapur

hi madarishi

just 2 hrs back am back to Chennai from bijapur.right now temperature is good & if you are photography person then its your turn to take some good photographs.

stay :
We stayed in Hotel Madura(station road).its very cheap(less than 500 for 3 people) & its really a decent hotel with hot water.you can hire an auto from bus stand to hotel(Rs25 to Rs 30 max)
places to visit:
1.gol gumbaz(try to be there before 8 am if possible)to enjoy that pure impulse response& in front of gumbaz there is a museum worth to watch it.
2.Ibrahim rouza-this is one of the famous monuments.(hire an auto or horse-drawn tongas)
note:
please don't consider horse-drawn tongas package of monuments round up(Rs 250)its not worth at all.
3.if interested visit juma masjid & there is also ancient cannon called mallika e- maiden cannon.according to history.
4.evenin try to atten music show kinda near bustsand
.

stay option 2:
hotel adil- shah guest house annexe in same station road.(govt of karnataka)

if u want any other info regarding hampi ,badami just reply me back..

i think this information will help you a lot
