Best places in Coorg

Hey all!
I am planning a trip to South India for next January, and I am really interested in going to Coorg, for several reasons. I am very interested in Kodava music and culture, and am looking for the best place to go to exerience this(as ridiculously broad as that sounds). I am very interested in doing some recording, and wondering where would be the best place to go to capture some great Valaga. I am looking currently at Madikeri, and areas near Iruppu, and am wondering what folks here see as the best area to visit. Or if there are other areas that may be even better! Anywho, any help would be greatly appreciated.
