Which is the best beach in Karnataka in terms of cleanliness and less crowded?

What are the options available for a 2-3 days trip to beach destinations from Bangalore excluding Goa and Kerala beaches..

How do you plan to travel?

What's your exact time available?

What do you plan to do on the beach?

This may make a difference given that you have such a short time.

Malpe beach (near Udupi) isn't much to write home about (I say the same about most beaches in Goa/Kerala), but has the added attractions of St. Mary Island and Udupi close by and an overnight train between Bangalore and Mangalore could save you a lot of time/money.

Gokarna (well, the beaches close by) is also an option, and Gokarna is a nice town, but transport may be a problem.

Murudeshwar is great, but it's not the kind of place to lay sunbathing in a bikini, even for a woman.

Murudeshwar (or Gokarna) could probably only be an option if you were driving, but if this is the case, you could visit Jog Falls on your travels.

Thumbs up Beaches on karnataka coast.

There are many a good beaches on the karnataka coast. Kaup beach comes to mind right away. What with a lighthouse on the rock, you have a majestic view of the sea front. Sunset is best experianced here. You can also see someshwara beach in ullal, which is closer to mangalore city. Karwar has some amazing beaches.

Thanks everyone. I am planning to spend 3-4 days dedicated for Coastal Karnataka. So I am looking for the best seaside (beach) destinations. The priority is only beach and as such no plan to visit the city for historical / religious places.

Can you share your feedback about the following beaches:

Karwar
Murudeshwar
Maravanthe
Malpe
Gokarna
Kaup

If I need to pick only 2-3 beaches among the above list, which one you recommend based on the parameters (Cleanliness, Scenic and less Crowded). Also if there is any better option than the ones mentioned above along Karnataka border, please do mention the same.

You can add someshwara beach to the list. But if you have to pick only 3 beaches, i would go for gokarna, karwar and murudeshwara in that order.

Karwar - too crowded
Murudeshwar - again crowded and no good place to eat,
Maravanthe -
Malpe - quite decent if u go on weedays
Gokarna - best of the above
Kaup - no idea
If ur looking for an isolated beach, there one place called sultan battery, i forgot the name of the beach, its a little difficult to find, but worth it(there are 2 sunken ships also on that beach).

Sultan battery, is right in the middle of mangalore city. It is the backwaters. Not many people frequent this place.

Yes, this is a good beach. They have tower lights here and one can stay late in the evenings.

That is TaneerBavi, you need to take a boat from Sulthan Battery to this beach. Its a very nice place, bit crowded lately. You can also get in the water its pretty safe.

Are you planning to stay in some beach resort or jus hop over places?

Kaup Beach is good, has some food joints also there.
Surathkal Beach opposite to REC could also be another option.
I feel Panambur is too comercial, and is crowded during evenings. There are even boating and Jet Ski .
Also this is the only place where there are Gaurds/Life Savers.

If you want to stay, then Turtle Bay in Marvanthe is the BEST.

Thanks again for the valuable inputs...

Decided the dates (Last week of Jan)... Hope to see less crowd after the festival season (Christmas and New Year)...

Would like to start at Udupi and end the trip at Karwar (if its worth) else at Gokarna as I can easily travel from Bangalore to these places. I am planning for 3 Night and 4 Day trip and would love to cover the following places:

1) Udupi Temple, Malpe Beach and St. Mary Island
2) Marvanthe Beach / Murudeshwar Beach
3) Gokarna Beach
4) Karwar Beach

I am planning to stay for 1 night at Udupi, Gokarna and either Marvanthe or Murudeshwar depending upon which one is selected.

Can anyone who has visited both Murudeshwar and Marvanthe throw some light on both these beaches and which one would be better to stay and would be cleaner and less crowded..

Also Please suggest accomodation options at these places (Udupi / Malpe, Gokarna and Murudeshwar / Marvanthe)...

Are there many public beaches in Karwar? How far are these becahes from Karwar bus station? Do we get Autos to go to these beaches from the Bus stand and return back?

If you are looking for a realaxed holiday, along the beach, then Marvanthe is better. Turtle Bay in Marvanthe is a pretty neat place for that, and its bang on the beach, Excellent service, rooms are well maintained.

In Malpe, again if you are looking for a beach facing then Paradise Isle is good, they also have some discounts going on now(saw in the papers), so please check with them in case you go fot this.

In Gokarna, Namaste Cafe is quite popular (haven't stayed there, you should get good info in IM about this). we stayed in Om Beach international, its a very nice place, neat cottages, food was jus OK, tad expensive(but i felt it was worth it)

I would say

Half Moon Beach - Gokarna
Paradise Beach - Gokarna
Om Beach - Gokarna

The best of the Karnataka beaches in terms of less crowds, Clenliness, Beach Culture and amenities.
