Question beaches in Gokarna

Anyone has been to beaches around gokarna. I have heard they are preety secluded & not much commercialised(just like what Anjuna beach in goa was in 90s).At least im prety excited after looking at some of the pics on websites which i browsed. Im planning a trip next month Basically my concern is about stay as i would prefer staying in a non commercial area. Also would it be crowded around Feb??? Any kind of informative inputs would be very helpful.

I was in Gokarna a few months back. Here are some tips:

Avoid staying in a hotel in Gokarna. the better ones are dirty with stained bed sheets.. "gokarna International" for example is really bad.

Head straight for OM beach. Rs. 100 for a 15 min ride by rickshaw. Stop and ask at all the beach shacks for accomodation. Room rates vary from Rs 400 for double with fan and attached toilet, to Rs. 100-150 for mud hut without window and fan (double), common shower and indian style toilets. These are quite ok actually due to beach atmosphere and you won't miss the luxury of attached bath.

The beach is pleasant to stay up to 1am and beyond, so you won't need windowed rooms anyways.

Plan you trip when full moon is approaching.

After you drop you luggage in OM beach, and frolic in the sea, take a boat trip to Half-Moon beach (Rs 10 per head if 10 people are available) for the 2nd round of frolic. You can negotiate for a room here before dragging you luggage over by boat the next day.

The third beach is paradise beach - it is very small and the water is really cloudy with sand here so you won't enjoy the water here much. Due to the steep rise of the ocean floor at the beach, a lot of sand is tumble-washed making it very unpleasant to get into the water. Also the sand is black in colour here. Good for a lunch stop and boat ride though.

There is also path over the mountains overlooking the sea from OM beach to Half-Moon and Paradise. I got lost and took a long detour before I landed at Paradise from the opposite direction. If you stick to the trail right overhead the ocean this should not happen.

Will post snaps later this week for you to check out.

In short, you should stay on the beach and come back to Gokarna to visit the temple or enjoy the village atmosphere before heading back by 5:30 pm to the beach. Thats the best plan I can recommend.

The pale silvery reflection of white sandy beaches, sparkling florescences of the surf waters the moonlight striking a beam like pattern on the ocean surface as it rises over the ocean, the stars ... shiny bigger than usual blots in the dark purple sky, even on moonlit nights ... all these are sights you will miss otherwise.

Do you want to sit in pitch darkness on the beach? ..

Cheers

duno about Feb, been there in November. This year India has seen fewer Israeli tourists (the majority) due to strong rupee vs dollar.

Cheers
