bangalore to wayanad

hi,

i am planning to go to wayanad on 7th august, for 2 nights & 3 days, we are 2 couples having 2.5 years & 1 year old kid, & travelling with our own car, santro, i need the following guidelines :

1) we are planning to go to wayanad via nagarhole np- starting early in the morning from bangalore - how is the road through out ? & road direction to reach there.

2) is August 2nd week better to visit wayanad as there might be heavy rainfall at this time ?

3) we are planning to stay in vyatri resort, is that the best or any other option ?

4) Is santro good enough to ride the hilly & mountanious strech.

i have visited many sites but am very confused.kindly guide me.

Hi,

Wayanad is horrible now. We planned for Wayanad on the same weekend and now changed to Nagarhole only. Its heavily raining and flood now in wayanad. Few roads are also blocked because of land sliding. you can try your luck.....

The road through out Nagarhole is good as you will go through mysore rd only.
Safe journey n happy travelling....

Thumbs up thanks

oh thanks rajdeep for ur information,
i heard that the chances to see wildlife during monsoons are very less & nagarhole is not far from wayanad, in that case there should be heavy rains even in that place,

1) Why do you want to take the Nagarhole route? You could drive through Gundulpet - Muthanga WLS. Roads, in my opinion, were much better

4) Wayanad's roads aren't that tough to manage - you could easily pull it off in a santro The roads aren't the typically hilly roads with hair-pin bends. They seemed a lot flatter to me.

Thumbs up hi Sharan

1) Why do you want to take the Nagarhole route? You could drive through Gundulpet - Muthanga WLS. Roads, in my opinion, were much better

the reason to drive through nagarhole is that the route foes between the nagarhole NP & we can enjoy the natural flaura & fauna, which i think would not be found of gundulpet road. plz correct me if i am wrong ?

even nagarhole route roads are better ?

Amit,

You could enjoy driving thjrough the forests even if you take the gundulpet route. Muthanga WLS, which is contiguous with bandipur WLS in Karnataka and Mudumalai WLS in TN falls on the route.
(P.S: Its a single forest, which is called by different names in each of these 3 states)

Of course one advantage you could get in taking the nagarhole route is visitng Iruppu falls in Kutta which falls after Nagarhole on the same route. You could do this route for one way while doing the gundulpet route the other way. You could probably check with Rajdeep on the condition of the roads and then decide on this!

It was a very useful information & as told by u we shall try both the routes vice versa , do u know the distance to wayanad from both the routes ? are the chances of seeing the wildfile is possible in gundulpet route ?

is kutta on the way from nagarhole to wayanad.?

- The distance is more or less the same (~ 250 kms)through gundulpet or nagarhole routes. By this, I mean the distance from bangalore to the point where you enter wayanad. Wayanad is the name of the district and consists of three main towns in a triangle - Sulthan bathery, Kalpetta and Mananthavadi, each located about 25-30kms from each other.

The Nagarhole route takes you to Mananthavadi while the gundulpet route leads you to sulthan bathery. From either place, you need to travel to Kalpetta the other town, in case you are planning to stay at Vythiri.

For easier understanding, you could take a look at the info section in the first post in my blog (link in my signature) about my trip to wayanad from bangalore earlier this year. The maps especially could help you.

- As far as wildlife sighting on the highway are concerned, I guess both the routes stand the same chance.

- Yes, Kutta falls on the way from nagarhole to wayanad. Its almost on the kerala - karnataka border.

Please have a look at this webpage. Explains everything in detail.

The place as such is definitely worth. But you might want to check on the current weather conditions there. I do not think the route will be affected by rains but you might not be wanting to get stuck up in the hotel during the day!

I would suggest that you try posting on the same in the Kerala forum. In fact, one of IM members 'anurakti' lives in Kalpetta, wayanad. You could even pm him.

i agree with you Kutta is easier to reach and very beautiful. Besides wayanad is close by you can to go Tholpetty sanctury in less than 40 mins. so chances of wildlife being seen is higher on this route. and there are a lot of homestays available they are in thick of forest so experience is great

Unhappy hi

i have also come to know that 1 in 2 people are suffering from chikungunya in whole of wayanad & it would be a risk to go this time.

hi,

i heard that there are no hotels in kutta, but can find only homestays, i want to know whether the home stays provide good quality pure vegetarian food, & which is the best homestay in the place & normally how many rooms does the homestay have.
