We've sort of decided to use Bangalore as a base to travel to Hampi then back to Bangalore and then travel south to a hill station town (mostly for the cool weather) then down to the coast and Cochi and travel up Karwar (thanks lonelyaztec) and return to Mumbai for our flight to Singapore.

My question is how do we get from Bangalore to Munnar? Bus, train or fly Air Deccan to Coimbatore and head down to Munnar by train or bus?

Any input gratefully received. All those beaches in Kerala will be too hot for us, I fear!

May be its too late for a reply,

u have not mentioned when are u planning to get there. To reach munnar best way is as u described. If u r in there for summer get to Coimbatore by air and then get a bus.

The beaches of kerala/karnataka will be slightly hotter as in carins or darwin in summer so that should not be very bad.

The distance from cochi to Karwar is quite substantial and for u to get to mumbai best is to travel a bit further into goa and catch a flight. Karwar - Dabolim Airport (on the way to Vasco da Gama) is about 80 odd Kms, and there are a number of busses/taxis that can hire from Karwar.

And all along coastal Karnataka esp Mangalore, Ice creams are a treat ... so try to get to Ideal Ice cream Parlour and ask for Gad-Bad (meaning mixup/distorsion in hindi), an empty stomach would be a good idea :-)

happy touring

Talking Lyndy

Hey Lyndy,

Thanks for the compliments..

Two things i want to tell u.

1. bangalore to munnar. One way is to go to Coimbathore as take a bus / cab to Munnar. The other alternative is to go to OOty from Bangalore by bus, from there proceed to Munnar. all depends on how much time u have got. The bus from Bangalore to Ooty / Munnar will be a over night journey.

U can also check if u will get direct bus to Munnar from Bangalore. I think they are available.

2. cochin to Karwar by train is really long journey. You should be able to take a flight from Cochin to Goa. Karwar is about 80 kms south of Goa.

Thanks you two for the info. We are in Bangalore right now after a great flight on Air Deccan and have decided to take a bus to Mysore this morning for a couple of days then a super express to Trivandrum and come up north to Cochin and go inland & into the mountains from Cochin.

Have fun and thanks again for your very kind replies.
