Hi,
I intend to do a road trip to Madikeri (Coorg) from Bangalore in the 1st week of November, this is the first time I am traveling. I have done a raw research and with suggestion of few friends jotted down some place as below. Abbey Falls (5kms)/ Bhagamandala (48kms)/ Talacuavery (56Kms)*/ Virajpet/ Dubare ()/ Nisargadhama (30 Kms)**/ Iruppu Falls (Fresh water cascade, 48kms from Virajpet on the way to Nagarhole) All the distances mentioned are roughly marked from Madekeri towards each destination. Could someone help me out with the order in which it can be covered and will two days be enough to cover these places. Thanks in Advance Sudhan |

Hi Sudhan
You can go to Madikeri (Abbey falls), Dubare forest, Kushal Nagar, Nisargadhama and Tadianamol. Dont miss Tadianamol. It is the second highest peak in Karnataka. Awesome scenary... Regards Arvind |

Point In Direction
I did a similar trip this past September. I think you are overly ambitious to cover such distances in merely two days. I would say that four days (if you can spare it) would allow you to enjoy beautiful Coorg and not just making a driving trip, where you are merely covering ground. The people I stayed with provided a relaxing and manageable trip for me.

Hi PM Velu,
I came up with two option from your helpful itinerary, would require your expert comment on it. It is as follows: Track 1: Start from Bangalore by 6/6.30 am Day 1: Bangalore – Shrirangapatna – Hunsur - Bylekuppe** [Golden Temple/Tibetan Settlements] - Cauvery Nishagadhama ** [Island Formed by Cauvery] - Madikeri [Abbey Falls ** Followed by Raja's seat**] Night Halt Day 2: Start by 5 am Madikeri – Bhagamandala – Talacauvery – Bhagamandala - Dubare Elephant Camp- Madikeri Night Halt Day 3: Start by 5 am. Madikeri – Virajpet - Gonikoppal - Iruppu Falls** - Kutta- Nagarahole NP** [Forest Safari] - Hunsur - Shrirangapatna – Bangalore Back to Bangalore the same night Track 2: Day 1: Bangalore – Shrirangapatna – Hunsur - Bylekuppe** [Golden Temple/Tibetan Settlements] - Cauvery Nishagadhama ** [Island Formed by Cauvery] - Madikeri [Abbey Falls ** Followed by Raja's seat**] Your Option 3 [Crunched and Fast tracked] Day 2: Start by 5:00 am Madikeri- Talacauvery- Bhagamandala- Virajpet- Gonikoppal- Iruppu Falls**-Kutta- Nagarahole NP** [Be there by 2 pm Max for Forest safari . Timings 6 - 9 am and 3 - 6 pm]- Hunsur- Elwal- Shrirangapatna- Bangalore Back to Bangalore the same night Question 1: Do you think if I choose in the Track 2, it will be more of a jam packed trip and will not be able to enjoy much of the trip ?? 2. Is Track 1, a good combination joined from the Option 1 and Option 2 given by you in your earlier Itinerary. I am asking as this is going to be a self driven journey and no drivers. So to make it enjoyable and lovely experience within the optimum time need your expert opinion. Thanks in advance Sudhan |

Hi Sudhan,
My Comments inline in BOLD Track 1: Start from Bangalore by 6/6.30 am Day 1: Bangalore – Shrirangapatna – Hunsur - Bylekuppe** [Golden Temple/Tibetan Settlements] - Cauvery Nishagadhama ** [Island Formed by Cauvery] - Madikeri [Abbey Falls ** Followed by Raja's seat**] Night Halt Fine Day 2: Start by 5 am Madikeri – Bhagamandala – Talacauvery – Bhagamandala - Dubare Elephant Camp- Madikeri After Dubare, no need to go all the way back to Madikeri. My Suggestion is , Reach Kushal Nagara which is just 12 kms from Dubare and Kushal Nagara have decent lodges and good restaurants. Night Halt Day 3: Start by 5 am. Madikeri – Virajpet - Gonikoppal - Iruppu Falls** - Kutta- Nagarahole NP** [Forest Safari] - Hunsur - Shrirangapatna – Bangalore If you opt for night stay in Kushal Nagara on day 2, you can do the following in Day 3. Kushal Nagara - Gonikoppal-Iruppu Falls** - Kutta - Nagarahole NP** [Forest Safari] - Hunsur- Shrirangapatna-Bangalore Back to Bangalore the same night Track 2: Day 1: Bangalore – Shrirangapatna – Hunsur - Bylekuppe** [Golden Temple/Tibetan Settlements] - Cauvery Nishagadhama ** [Island Formed by Cauvery] - Madikeri [Abbey Falls ** Followed by Raja's seat**] Fine Your Option 3 [Crunched and Fast tracked] Day 2: Start by 5:00 am Madikeri- Talacauvery- Bhagamandala- Virajpet- Gonikoppal- Iruppu Falls**-Kutta- Nagarahole NP** [Be there by 2 pm Max for Forest safari . Timings 6 - 9 am and 3 - 6 pm]- Hunsur- Elwal- Shrirangapatna- Bangalore Back to Bangalore the same night On this Day, it will be crunched as you need 2 hours travel to Talacauvery from Madikeri and you need 2 hours to enjoy Brahmagiri ranges followed by 1/2 an hour drive to Bhagamandala . For Bhagamandala to Virajpeta , again you need to get upto madikeri and hence bhagamandala to Virajpeta will take nearer to 3 hours.I feel this day will be too crunched and roads from Virajpet onwards until Nagarahole NP will be average only. Plan accordingly. Question 1: Do you think if I choose in the Track 2, it will be more of a jam packed trip and will not be able to enjoy much of the trip ?? Track 2 , Day 2 looks crunched for me. 2. Is Track 1, a good combination joined from the Option 1 and Option 2 given by you in your earlier Itinerary. Yes I am asking as this is going to be a self driven journey and no drivers. So to make it enjoyable and lovely experience within the optimum time need your expert opinion. Take care of average roads from Kushalnagara until Madikeri, Take care of winding hily drive between Madikeri to Talacauvery and Madikeri to Virajpeta. Take care of Average roads from Gonikoppal to Nagarahole NP / Iruppu Falls. My Vote goes to Track 1 Hope this helps. Have a Fantastic journey. Regards Velu |

Hey Thanks Velu for your quick reply & suggestions. I was even pretty much dicey about the Track 2, thanks much on the clarity on Track 1 too.
One more, you have mentioned "average roads", hope those don't have pot holes too make the drive miserable & slow and could you throw some light of the heavy vehicle traffic in these stretch ? i guess their not be as most of them as State Highway's not NH. Thanks for the great Help Sudhan |

From Bangalore to Shrirangapatna & Elwala to Kushal Nagara road will be Fantastic & Heavy Vehicles movement will be there. From Suntikoppa to MAdikeri [ 22 kms ] road will be with BIG pot holes on the side of the roads. Just we need to make sure we are not getting down from the road. From Madikeri - Talacauvery it will be Hilly Ghat winding roads. From Gonikoppa to Iruppu Falls / Nagarahole NP, Again roads wil be winding with Tea plantations at both sides of the road at many places and road condition is Average. I mean you could drive at 40 km speed. Hope this helps. Have a Safe & Fantastic Trip. Regards Velu |
