Question Bangalore => Chikkamagalore (Kemmangudi) => Sringeri => Udipi => Shivamoga => Bangalo

Bangalore => Chikkamagalore (Kemmangudi) => Sringeri => Udipi => Shivamoga => Bangalore

Hi,

This is a travel plan, which I did for one of my friend who wanted to visit Udipi and Sringeri during the month of November. So I had taken the liberty to add some places of attraction in and around those places. So would like to know if this sounds like a good route map, if so within how many days can we do this. Are there any more places of sight seeing around that could be added (that i have missed on).

Bangalore => Chikmagalur:
Chikmagalur => Kemmangundi: 53 Kms
Chikmagalur => Sringeri: 79 kms
Sringeri => Udipi: 88 kms
Udipi => Shivamoga => Kodachadri:
Shivamoga => Kodachadri: 100 Kms
Shivamoga => Bangalore:

Thanks in Advance
Sudhan

Hi Sudhan
This itinenary looks good. I guess it would take around 10-12 days to cover all the places. You can also cramp the schedule to 8-9 days but it would be pretty hectic. Kemmangundi is a must see place.(Esp Z Point and Hebbe falls). On the way to Kemmangundi, a place called Tarikere is there. There is a famous Hoysala temple and Badra dam. You can add it to your itinenary if you want.

Regards
Arvind

Hi,
This is my suggestion -
Day1 : Bangalore to Chikmagalur (5 hrs), Chikmagalur to Kemmangundi (3 hrs - depends on road conditions). Halt at Kemmangundi. There are only forest guest houses and it is better to book in advance.

Day 2: Site seeing at K'gundi - Hebbe falls and gardens etc.

Day3 : K'gundi to Chikmagalur. Chikmagalur to Sringeri (4hrs). Halt at Sringeri.

Day4: Sringeri temple visit. Afternoon Sringeri to Shimoga (3hrs). Halt at Shimoga.

Day5: Shimoga to Jog Falls. Shimoga to Kollur (not very sure abt travel time but at max 5 hrs). Halt at Kollur.

Day6: Kollur to Kodachadri (kollur is the base camp for Kodachadri trek). There is a temple at Kollur.

Day7: Back from Kodachadri to Kollur. Kollur to Udupi. Halt at Udupi.

Day8: In and around Udupi, temple, beach etc.

Regards,
cinch

The itinerary proposed by cinch is a pretty good one - to the best of my knowledge.

Thanks eeboy, cinch and ribhu95. Thanks cinch again for the additional effort of charting out a itenary.

Needed a suggestion, Do you think if this plan was split into 4 days each will make it a better stay, if so how do we proceed.

Like for example:
Plan 1: Bangalore - Chikmagalur - Kemmangundi - Shimoga - Kollur (Kodachadri trek) - Bangalore
Plan 2: Bangalore - Sringeri - Udupi - Dharmastala -Kuke - Bangalore

thanks in advance

Bangalore - Chikmagalur - Kemmangundi - Shimoga - Kollur (Kodachadri trek) - Bangalore

Day 3: Kemmangundi to Shimoga (3hrs), Shimoga to Jog Falls. Shimoga to Kollur (not very sure abt travel time but at max 5 hrs). Halt at Kollur.

Day 4: Visit Kollur temple in the morning and proceed to Kodachadri (kollur is the base camp for Kodachadri trek/ Arishina Gundi Falls, Agastya Teertha) back to Kollur the same night.
Halt at Kollur

Day 5: Back from Kollur to Bangalore (400kms, 10 Hrs)

Is there any possibility of the Plan 1 being done in 4 days with the above areas to be covered, I guess it is highly impossible but just seeing if I am missing out on something. expert advice.

Is there any major site seeing places i have missed in the above, please do let me know.

Bangalore - Sringeri - Udupi - Dharmastala -Kuke - Bangalore
Day 1: Bangalore to Sringeri (336kms, 6 Hrs), reach by afternoon, Sringeri temple visit in the evening (5 pm to 9 pm is temple timings). Halt at Sringeri.

Day 2: Start from Sringeri for Udupi in the post breakfast (86 Kms, 2hrs), visit temple (5.30 to 11 am & 5 to 9 pm)
Start for Dharmastala sometime post lunch (Udipi to Dharmastala, 100 kms), Halt in Dharmastala, night stay.

Day 3: Visit the temples Main temples (Main Temple:Shri Manjunatheshwara, Shri Ammanavaru, Four Dharma Daivas: Kalarahu, Kalarkaayi, Kanyakumari and Kumaraswamy, Lord Ganapathi and Lord Annappa)
Start for Kukke from Dharmastala (70kms/ 1.5 hrs), Night Stay at Kukke

Day 4: Vist the temple in the morning and leave from there for Bangalore, to reach by late evening 7 PM (350kms/ 7Hrs)

I am absolutely sorry if I am troubling you folks with an alternative plan of mine.

Thanks in advance
Sudhan

Sudhan
Day1 : If you leave early from bangalore say 5AM, you can reach chikmagalur by 11, and kemmangundi by lunch. Visit Hebbe falls.

Day2: Hald day site seeing at Kemmangundi. After lunch, leave to Shimoga. There is a route from kemmangundi to shimoga via kalhatgiri - tarikere - bhadravathi. You dont have to come back to chikmagalur. On the way to shimoga, just near Tarikere, there is a beautiful temple at Amruthapura. Dont miss that. Very calm and quiet place. Halt at Shimoga.

Day3: Shimoga to Jog falls (half day), Travel to kollur (Half day). It will be very hectic to travel form Kemmangundi - shimoga - jog falls - kollur (as you have suggested).

Day4: Kodachadri trek, back at kollur. Leave to Bangalore.

If you are hiring a vehicle, then you can request your driver for night driving on Day4 to bangalore. Because he would have had full day rest when you go for kodachadri trek. By morning you will be in bangalore.

Few suggestions -
1. On Day2, if you leave Sringeri post breakfast say 9.00AM, you will reach Udupi at 12 noon. I think temple would be closed by then (not very sure). Though Sringeri to Udupi is 86km, its ghat section (Agumbe Ghat), so you will need 3 hours. After you climb down the ghat section, you will get a place called Someshwar. Dont miss the "Neeru Dose" which you get there. Ask the localites they will tell where you get that. Its a small village, and in one house (mess kind of a place)they serve superb "neeru dose".

2. If you are not very keen on visiting Udupi, then from Sringeri you can directly go to Dharmasthala via charmadi ghat. On the way you can visit Annapurneshwari temple at Hornadu and have a sumptuous lunch (prasadam) at the temple. This is your personal choice.

3. Near Dharmasthala, there is a Ganapathi temple at "Sowthe thadka". Here Ganapathi idol is in open area and no shelter, very nice place, dont miss that.

Hi Sudan,

Much of the information I think you got it from your search in the net. I did travelled across that region and shared the info over here.

Please Refer Post 2 in this link for the information

trip In and around Chikmangalur From Bangalore

You may have a look to get a feel of what you expect on especially your Plan2.

Much of the travel times you mentioned between places looks "not enough" for me if you drive in normal speeds.

Hope this helps

Do you mean to say, my travel timing mentioned are not sufficient in both the plans or just the second one (Pan 2) ?

Please do let me know, the link you have shared has a lot of place that is not listed in mine ? like Kemmangudi and Shivamoga. So could you help me around with alternative/ adjustments in the travel plan mentioned my me.

and also if you thing the area mentioned by me does not have anything interesting to be seen, please feel free to change them to better.

I am actually lookin at a 4 days trip.

Thanks

I would not suggest night driving then...

If you have strict constraint on 4 days, then go for
Day1- Bangalore, Kemmangundi
Day2 - Kemmangundi (half day), Shimoga halt
Day3 - Jog falls, Sringeri
Day4 - Sringeri, Hornadu, back to Bangalore.

All these places are above ghat section.
Dharmasthala - Kukke - Udupi are below ghat section. If you club them you will be needing more time.
