Chikmagalur is not a hill station. It has coffee plantations and is situated at the foot hills. Ooty is 280 kms form Bangalore and one of the best known hillstations of the south. Another hill-station is Kodaikanal but that exceeds your 300 kms radius by about 180 kms or so.

Chikmanglur is in a valley and very well qualifies as a hill station. Infact the Highest peak of Karnataka 'Mullainagiri' is situated just 15 KMs from here.

The only qualification for a place to be called Hill Station is that it should be in hills.....

I am not Columbs. ......These sites also describe Chikmanglur as a Hill station.

1. 2. 3.

I am sure there will be many others.........

I have been there and by no stretch of my imagination I would call it a hill station or maybe my expectation of a hill station is a bit more than Chikmagalur town which is flat as a plate and really warm!
Each to his own I would say! BTW are you talking here of Chikmagalur town or the entire district???

By no means chikmangalur is a hill station.. i have been there like 2 week backs... in which hill station u need to stay in ac rooms.. and get sun burn.. the place is near sea level n as hot as bangalore itself... u can call it a tourist attraction place.. cause of mullayangiri.. hebbe fall n kemmangundii... but if i have to rate it on a scale of 10 i may give it 3.... its worth looking if u dont have anything else... n i repeat..by no means its a hill station bro.... if u really wanna see hill stations go to munnar...or kodaikanal.. or wayanad... thats called hill station..

My friend had a horrible experience when he went to Yercad. Apparently the place where he was staying was haunted.

Just for info.

That's reason enough for me to take a look. Could you please ask your friend for some details.
