| Wanderer | Renting a car from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer I plan to hire a car from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer and covering Guda Vishnoi Village, Mehrangarg Fort, Osiyan on the way. Taking Mandor express to reach Jodhpur adn directly would be renting the taxi and then reaching Jaisalmer around 7ish in the evening. Any specific car rentals ? have heard some nice deals at the tourist office ? how much would be the approximate cost ? Anyone got clarity on how the taxi system works there ? Do i need to pay for both sides. I dont plan to keep the taxi with me and take a bus to Jodhpur on the way back and then take the train from Jodhpur. Could have taken the direct Jaisalmer - Delhi train but the timings doesnt suit me !

| A rough guide to price is a Tata Indica would be around 2,500 rupees - you have to pay for the return trip. A bigger vehicle will cost more. So yes, you do have to pay for 'both sides' when you are only going one way. Of course, the benefit is you can go the way of choice via Osiyan. There are plenty of car hire places lining along the street at right angles to the railway station and where Midtown and Kalinga restaurants are. Most are on the opposite side to these restaurants. Rajasthan Tours is one such place. You could also try at the RTDC Hotel Ghoomar for renting a car.
