Liz-Arun Nayar and The Royal Wedding.
The rights to the Liz Hurley-Arun Nayar shaadi in Jodhpur have been sold to an international media house for a huge sum.
In keeping with society's interest in the high-glamour celebrity weddings of the West, the rights to the Liz Hurley-Arun Nayar shaadi in Jodhpur have reportedly been sold to an international media house for a huge and undisclosed sum. Which means the Indian ceremony taking place at the famed Mehrangarh Fort is out of bounds to local media and foreign stalkerazzi who have been staking out the 15th century fort privately owned by Maharaja Gajsinghji II of Jodhpur. No prying or candid cameras will be allowed, even sneak peeks captured on cell phones will be frowned upon, that's how private and personal the ceremony is going to be. The newly-married celeb couple was slated to land Saturday, but Maharaja Gajsinghji II had laid out the red carpet well in advance for Liz-Arun's high profile guests. Their wedding has created a storm in London already. And the Indian ceremony at Mehrangarh Fort on March 8, 9 and 10, promises only to up the scale of the Royal Richter for the event. Maharaja Gajsinghji II said, "Liz Hurley and Arun Nayar are my personal guests." He, along with wife Hemlata Rajye, daughter Shivranjani and son Shivraj Singh, the heir apparent, will be attending the wedding. Elton John, David Beckham and Hugh Grant who are likely to attend the wedding will be staying at the Umaid Bhawan Palace, the Maharaja's residence in Jodhpur now converted into a hotel. on times of india-indian times. |

Have just read this thread - I might add a few things about Jaisalmer. As desertrose says, the hotels near Hanuman Circle would not be so good because of night noises. Really not that much pollution here! I would suggest that IM'ers check out recommendations on this Forum under Hotels, they are pretty accurate. Also, have a read of latest LP guide, has something to say about staying inside the Fort..I am not quite sure about this. Wherever you stay, will be within walking distance of most
interesting sites, except for more expensive places like Gorbandh Palace, Fort Rajwada, Heritage Inn, Rang Mahal but this wouldn't matter if you have your own transport.

Reg Aishah's Post.
Thanks a lot Aishah for bringing this information in my notice, I was in Jaislmer this January but only for few days ,couldnt notice much, Info on Hanuman circle I added to the forum came to my mind from 1 or 2 travellers point of view who came across me around me writting the post. I have heard of the development work in Jaislmer . It is very good to hear that it is quite around the Hanuman circle area at night and i am sure it is good for the hospitalities around this place or the places offering stay around this place. After a tiring day wandering around the city people like to go back to quiter places to sleep. Please have a look at the Hotels section of India Mike before deciding any recommandations. Yes I am very greatfull to the 12th edition of LP to India,People in tourism earning money forgot what loss and mistakes they were making while busy earning.
The new LP writes a lot of negetive points about the Old city of Jodhpur and the Accomdations inside the old fort of Jaislmer. Maybe this write up would open up eyes of all those who forgot to conserve historic things and many others things to keep their surrounding clean and healthy in a better way for all. they have another 2 years from now for the 13th edition to come out maybe people will make some difference from this lesson. Regards and Happy Travels. Rathore. |

Desertrose - just a small correction - I was saying there ARE night noises around Hanuman Circle which means it is NOT quiet (one of the points you raised) and was agreeing with you! Good point about conservation issues in regard to Jaisalmer Fort and Old City of Jodhpur - if the Fort collapsed because of the water problem it would have huge recupercussions for this city.

Khamaghani, Thanks for your appreciation and i am happy that my information is of use to your Planning. From Udaipur please find a bus to go to Kumbalgarh, from Kumbalgarh it will be easier to find a ride(bus, taxi or hitch hike) to Ranakpur from here the bus's are well connected to Jodhpur, every half an hour there's a bus to Jodhpur, if you came with the goverment express bus it will bring you into the city center and if you took private company bus they will drop you at riktiya behruji circle , this is bit out of the center. Trains to Jodhpur could be taken from Falna town(not sure from the time of departure). Regards and Have safe journey |

Namaste Rathore ... again much thanks.
Do you have any idea of how late buses(RSTC or Private) from Ranakpur to Jodhpur? I am hoping to leave Ranakpur sometime between 16:00 & 19:00 to maximize my daylight time in Ranakpur area. I assume it is safe for a male to travel alone by bus in early night time. Is the scenery between Ranakpur to Jodhpur especially beautiful, or similar to what would have already been seen from Udaipur to Ranakpur? Also any suggestion on traditional music in Jodhpur? Bus's from Ranakpur to Jodhpur are running untill 10.00pm (RSTC or PRIVATE)it is safe for male traveller to hang around the area with habitat. The Scenery from Udaipur to Ranakpur is very hilly and very different from what you will witness from Ranakpur to Jodhpur, this area will is more plain and rocky. Haveli Guest House in the city center has(Jharokha resturant running on its roof, has gypsy dance performances every night or inquire with your hotel/guest house about the music night ) Take Care and all the best and please do not hesitate to inquire about anything. |

Jodhpur hotel possibility
Quote:
I have not been to Jodhpur however I am making plans for my college aged son. Amongst others, Lonely Planet guide suggests Durag Niwas Guest House which is in your price range. It gets good reviews at various online sites. I chose this guest house in part because it is DesertRose's own home. He has been extremely generous to me with his time and information(both in this thread and through PMs) with no desire for any benefit to himself. It was only through research that I realized that he has a guest house; he never gave a hint of this or in anyway requested that I consider staying there. I am not connected with him in anyway other than communication via this forum, and I hope that it is fine that I mention the guest house here in the forum and that it does not violate the rules of this wonderful forum. There are other places listed in the Hotel area of this forum as well. A search on this forum (or on Google) will give you plenty of advice from those who have actually stayed at various hotels/guesthouses. I usually find this to be helpful as I can get several opinions on the same place. Also listed in LP is Saji Sanwri Guest House also seemingly in your price range. I did not research this place. Your post indicates "us" but you do not indicate other than price range what you are seeking in a hotel: center of town; quiet; old; modern; run by a family; type of room? More details would get you a better answer. Have a great visit. Edward P.S. You do not have Private Mail set up for your forum account otherwise I would have provided this information in that way to make more certain that I did not violate any forum rules about "advertising". Moderator please delete this post if it is inappropriate and please contact me by PM of my error and point me to the forum policy so I can read it again and understand it. |

I've had people here say it is a bit of a disappointment. Some good ones I go to with great choices of food etc. are The Rocks beside Ajit Bhawan Hotel, The Recipe - this is in Residency Road, and is the restaurant attached to Shri Ram Excellency Hotel, Kalinga and Midtown both near the Railway Station and both excellent and one that used to be called Lovely Heaven but I think its name is now Chandra Inn because it is atttached to Hotel of same name (Quality Inns chain) and that is on Airport Road near a busy circle, not that far from Devi Bhawan, Madho Niwas etc. All these restaurants have fresh cooking, great choices; The Recipe, Midtown, and Chandra Inn are pure veg - the rest both non-veg and veg.
I should also add, desertrose's wife is a good cook and they have restaurant service at Durag Niwas as well! |
