Hotel in Desert between Jodhpur and Jaisalmer
Hi there is a very good resort/hotel between Jaisalmer and Jodhpur if we go via road route. Can anyone please forward me the details of that hotel. This resort has a very good swimming pool as well and seems as though some oasis in desert.

I stayed there for one night earlier this year. It's a lovely old haveli, and the staff were charming, but it was expensive and, I think, not worth the money. Including VAT and tax, it works out to over 3000 a night. The "deluxe" rooms were extremely basic (most lights did not work; TV did not work; the geyser in the bathroom was the smallest I have ever seen...), and the ones overlooking the main street extremely noisy at night due to the amount of traffic. You may get better luck if you go for a suite. The swimming pool is quite small, although the courtyard in which it is located is a nice place to sit. The restaurant was good, and they were happy to prepare anything I wanted at pretty much any time I wanted. Phalodi itself is a really lovely little town - relaxed, laid-back and great just to wander around and chill out. There's a beautiful Jain temple in the middle of town, countless old havelis in various states of disrepair, and it's only a few km to the birds at Khichan. There are other, more basic, places to stay in Phalodi and it might be worth trying some of those before deciding. Lal Niwas is unlikely to be full - when I stayed there, just after New Year, I was the only guest. Last edited by Mickey S : Oct 16th, 2007 at 15:53. |

We also decided not to stay there as the reviews were not that good and it seemed expensive. We are having a night at Ghanerao at the Haveli/Castle there before we get to Jodhpur (between Udaipur and Jodhpur) and then planning to go from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer by car or buses or bus and car...and stop for lunch in Phalodi...as it sounds like a lovely little village.

The hotel which i am talking about is not in Phalodi or pokran. It is just a hotel close to Jaisalmer- Jodhpur road. It looked very charming from outside. I had a glimpse of some tourist in the swimming pool. I want to stay in that hotel.

it was somewhere close to Pokhran. By what i can figure out from my glimpse was that i was a pretty decent hotel run by some good hoel group. I mean it was not one of those crampy hotel which you find everywhere.
The Cars and bus which were standing outside the hotel gave me idea of its grandeur. IT was totally in an deserted place . There was no other house or village in the very close vicinity of the place i am talking about. |

Manvar Resort is my favourite half way stop between Jaisalmer and Jodhpur - it is fantastic! Also very costly but you can stop there for lunch, no more costly than a good Delhi restaurant. The gardens would have to be the best for miles - it is a true oasis in the desert. But Kristinm if you are going via Osiyan and Phalodi, the road comes into the Jaisalmer road after Manvar and it would be too much back tracking for you. I should add Manvar to my Guilty Pleasures on Profile - I never fail to stop there on my Jodhpur - Jaisalmer drives!
