Choice of hotel in Jodhpur

We plan to be some days in Jodhpur. But I do not know, what hotel to choose.
The price is not higher 2500 for a double, but I would like heritage hotel with a beautiful kind on a fort and rooftop restaurant with good food.
May be:
Ranbanka Palace
Ratan Vilas
Pal Haveli
Karni Bhawan

or... other?

You can't get a hotel on a fort in Jodhpur (to the best of my knowledge!). The Fort is a museum, not one where you can stay inside like in Jaisalmer.

I've also heard good reports for Ratan Vilas, but I don't think it's exactly an ancient heritage haveli. Pal Haveli also good, built in the 1840's.

I'm a bit hazy here, but I have a feeling driving Airport Road in July, that Ranbanka Palace is no longer there - pulled down for some development I think. Room rates would be more than 2,500 rupees there if it is still there, however. The one time I went inside I felt it was a bit rundown and seedy.

Ratan Vilas gets my vote. I've just added some photos to my review of the place which is here if you're interested: http://www.indiamike.com/india-hotels/reviews/4622/

We stayed at Haveli Inn Pal and liked it. Excellent fort views from the top floor rooms. My review is among others here, also a couple of photos from the room (sepia colored, fooling around with my camera ).

Ratan Vilas looks even nicer but without the spectacular views.
