Planning to visit Massanjore
Hi friends,
I am planning to visit Massanjore in December this year. Can anyone give me idea how to reach the place from Bolpur and where to stay and the cost?

Massanjore to Siuri is approx 80 kms. You can take a bus from Bolpur to Siuri (40 kms). From Siuri you will get buses in every 1-1.5 hrs that go to Dumka via Massanjore. But those buses are always crowded with local people, and takes time. Better if you hire a car from Siuri.
Only modest accommodation in Massanjore is the beautifully located and well maintained Mayurakshi Bhaban (irrigation bungalow) of WB Irrigation deptt. Booking can be done from Siuri Irrigation office or at Kolkata Jalasampad/Sech bhaban. Room charge is nominal (around 350 per day). Food is available there.
Other option is Youth Hostel, which is not at all recommended for families. Poorly maintained and no food. Even no food shops nearby! Though the location and the building itself is quite a good object for a visit.
There is another place, Jharkhand bungalow (called as Bihar banglo). But forget about that. It's not a place for tourists.

Dear Bohemraj,
You helped sanjoy as well as me too.
I went to book Youth hostel there just yesterday and due to shortage of money i returned. Before going to book today, I just searched IMer's important views.
Thanks a lot- you saved me.
We are a group of 20- women and children- decided a weekend trip on 21-23 jan and our first choice of Piyali Island, then Maithan, Sabuj bon are found as full booked. Then we find Massanjore.
So now our plan is to stay at Siuri and go for a day's trip to massanjore and dumka.
Is it fine?

Is not massanjore interesting?
I am going to book through 'weekenddestinations.info'.
They said it's private hotel near dam.
Any suggestion please?

@Duronto Jajabar : Massanjore is beautiful, more so in monsoon and winter.. you must go there.. even better if you can manage to stay for more than a day....
I've been there plenty of times and I can confirm that there is NO private accommodation anywhere at Massanjore. i guess they meant Siuri for the other options of accommodation.

Booked youth hostel Dormitory
friends,
thanks for reply. during my queries, so many persons told me that Massanjore is beautiful and YH is in too good position. So i decided to arrange for our own cooking staff and thought, the damn cheap rate of YH can compensate the costing of such extra heads. But on Thursday i found the two d-bed rooms there are already booked. Then i found no way but to book the dormitory only. In this case private cooking is not allowed - as they said.
Bohemraj, we 'll be more than 25 heads, i think. So now i'm trying to book Irrigation banglow. Hope can get it.
The main problem in YH is common toilet, then food and then others.
Luckily i get contact of a known person staying in Massanjore. Hope thinks will be not so bad.
