Trekking to the five lakes in Kashmir..

Dear IMers,

Me and my husband want to go for trekking to the lakes Kishansar, Vishansar, Gadsar, Satsar, Gangabal in Mid August. we have 6 days to cover it up and get back to Srinagar.
i want some help on it from your experiences.
1. Is the weather right for the trek during that period in August?
2. how do we go treking? like do we need to book a trek, guide, pony? are there agents who do it? or we go and we find guids there at Sonmarg only??
3. what about food? do we carry it all?
4. what about the trekking equipments?
please help us plan the vacation.
thanks.

Deepti

I do not know if this website is genuine, but this is the most detailed day-wise plan I have seen so far on this trek. http://www.indiahikes.in/himalayan-t...at-lakes-trek/

It does appear you'd require a guide, tents, kitchen equipment and porter / pony.

I'm doing my own research in this direction so if you find something useful, please do share here!

Dear,

Its a big trek you need to take guide and Ponies to carry food and Equipment, if you are two people going for the trek at least2-3 ponies are required, August is a good month for Trekking and your Trek is one of the best.

Indiahike

Indiahike are very genuine people, they are proffesionals and right person to go on high treks, they got split into 2 groups last year with the name Indiahike and TrekTheHimalayas and are rivals now but they both provide same trips and same services.

Dear Vaibhav,

i saw this website too and i felt the same. Its unfortunate that they don't have seat available when we want to travel.
but am sure to find some, may be with some other agency.
i will surely tell you if i get some other information.
BTW when do you plan to travel?
thanks.

Hi Romi,

Do you have a preference for either of the two- IH and TTH. Please recommend as I am looking to trek the kashmir lakes this summer and both these look alike..its hard to choose one over the other... Have you been with either of the 2 organisers? Are they genuine and friendly people?

Thanks

Gangabal lake trek versus Tarsar/Marsar lake trek

Hi SunnyKashmir and others,

Could you please let me know which one is a better option between the two? We are a group of 4 trekkers, longing to trek in Kashmir for quite some time now. We have got quite a bit of trekking experience in Garhwal and Kumaon areas, but never been to Kashmir. It would be great to have your opinion to fix our next destination in May/June.

Cheers!
