Travelling to J/K from delhi - Need Travel Ideas Please

Hi,

We have planned to visit J/K some time between July,Aug or Sept, for 7 days, can anyone suggest a good travel plan??

What is the weather like at that time??

Also we have been trying to find a good place to stay, there are tour packages, that are giving out 7day tours. Is that a good idea to take up a tour? Also is it better to stay at house boat or a hotel? I was looking at peacock house boat and some tours by http://www.kashmir-tourism.org as options..

Any suggestions??

1.Plan your trip on your own instead of tours. Enough information is available on indiamike and trip advisor.
2. There is a standard itinerary for 7 days covering Srinagar, Sonmarg, Pahalgam and Gulmarg. You might take the same.
3. I recommend Chicago houseboat as we recently visited, though Peacock is also good enough.
4. Ask the houseboat person to give you a list of hotels they have tie-up with, and then refer to trip advisor for reviews and finalise accordingly.
5. Must stay in a houseboat rather than hotel.
6. I believe weather will be very good, esp in September.

I was told tour programs are generally cheaper. Which is why we where thinking of going with it. Any idea how much a 5 people trip (standard itinerary) - staying 5 days will cost us ? I was told tours will cost 9000Rs/day.
