Tour of Shrinagar

Hi All,

My parents plan to visit J&K, Shrinagar in diwali time. i,e october-09.

They are planning:

18/10/09 - Reached in evening at Jammu
19/10/09 - Jammu to Srinagar
20/10/09 - Srinagar visit
21/10/09 - Srinagar to Sonmarg and till night to reach at srinagar
22/10/09 - Srinagar to Gulmarg and night stay at gulmarg
24/10/09 - Gulmarg to pahalgam and 2 night stay at pahalgam
26/10/09 - Pahalgam to Jammu and than return to Our place.

Now they have limited budget. So pl let me know about the Lodging (Guest House/Hotel) rates at these all places. We don't want to go above 700 rs/- per night.

And also let me know about the minimum Travelling expenses from Jammu-Srinagar-sonmarg-gulmarg-Pahalgam-Jammu.

How is JKTDC? Can they stay their DORMITORY/Hut?

Can i get any cheapest plan with JKTDC? Any suggestions??

Pl help me to come out from this problem. I am very much confused.

I ll be so much thankful to you for help me for this..

Welcome to IndiaMike!

Don't have any first hand experience about that area. Just bumping the thread so that others with may notice it. By the way, have you tried searching previous posts in Jammu and Kashmir forum?

I'll post here if I come across something useful.

Regarding JKTDC accommodation the rates are quite high as compared to the budget you have in mind:
Room in Jammu for INR 1200
Srinagar 1875
Gulmarg 1500
Pahalgam 1500.

You will have to choose from among the private hotels. Please go through various threads on the J&K forum here.

Hey dear, Thak u so much for that link but in that article mentioned that trip was done in 2007 and i think after 2 yr, there may b lot of change in that services as well as rates and all.. what u think??

Hi All,

Any 1 know that in Srinagar, there are "guest houses" run by a Kashmiri family. its almost a home stay type of thing. They have few spare rooms in their house and they rent it out. They can provide food upon request.

Any 1 know about rates???

I found this idea in our one of previous post..

I think, budget accomodation should be easy to find after reaching there too. Kashmir is no tourist hot-spot anymore, that too in October. If it starts snowing then may be Gulmarg will have some rush for skiing, etc.

Just general opinion, as mentioned earlier I have no traveling experience in that area.

I have mentioned a place in srinagar, really cheap and basic, ot sure if it will be comfortable for your parents because they have one bathroom betweeen the 2 rooms they have, otherwise fine.
