Dilli - funny you should find me here!

what's funnier is that I had posted my question here just a few weeks *before* I went to kumoun - where I absolutely accidently stumbled on a similar rock there - as I shared in the other forum.

Well - most folks in this forum didnt take my post seriously - so I just let it be :-)

cheers

Jay

Some people have closed minds.

Skepticism is healthy, of course, but one should be open to "unusual" occurences. One may accept or reject such occurences after checking them out. I have my store of such stories.... many more of them.... but never mentioned on the net.

Again, this is a travel forum... what would you expect?

Its like a traveller wants to visit a temple to see its intricate carvings rather than feel the spirituality within. Nothing wrong about it. Only thing, that was not the original purpose for making the temple.

The maker of the temple did not create the temple for the designs, but for THE Designer. When we see a magnificent structure, we are reminded of the magnificent ONE.

There are similar stories about a temple stone in Pune. Also lookup Coral Castle in Florida.

I have a better one for you. While at Konarak a guide was telling a foren that the temples were set up as a giant magnet so that they pulled the Portugeese (why they were there must be another story) ships to wreck on the shore by the iron in their nails. Later, the Portugeese stole the magnet. but have nor seen it with my eyes..

I'm firmly of the "the universe is not only stranger than we imagine but stranger than we can imagine" school of thought, but this really is utter pants, isn't it?

(I believe it's called the Kaka Pul stone, by the way).

Another more well known truth is that the Quitab Minar there is a iron pillar that if you stretch your arms backward and reach all the way around to touch your fingers you get all your wishes. I can personally attest to the veracity his story since I have very long arms. Aside from slightly dislocated shoulders due to the assistance of the crowd I got a comfortable employment, educational attainment, and a beautiful wife. The only thing I didn't get is the dancing girls but I have to run. I think the wife is coming..

You mean different from the one at Shivapur the OP mentioned earlier?

For anyone interested, here's Jay's video link.

I'm guessing that's you in the black t-shirt, Jay?

A lesser known fact (?) is the belief that if you fail to touch your fingers, you are an illegitimate child...never managed to verify this so I have to assume that the quizmaster who posed the question leading to this answer was right...better be because it was a highly reputed quiz competition all those years ago.

Yes - that's me in the DeadBeat t-shirt, Dilli.

I posted my question here only cause I wanted to find out how to find that place again - so thanks to those who responded with the info!

But I must say... there's something that is bothering me a lot about what AvidTrekker wrote:

I won't elaborate cause it is indeed a travel forum... but I do want to share that I think Trekker is right...

Somehow just by sharing the experience with others dimishes that "something" that you feel when you have such experiences. It suddenly becomes not about the experience, but about you. :-(

Thanks for the lesson, Trekker :-). I shall say no more.

Peace

Jay

Define pants!

As for the others who are laughing, take a look at this link.

It is one thing to say that something is not possible in principle, and quite another to say that something cannot be explained using current theories. Philosopher of Science Patricia Churchland has a rather cryptic quote that captures the latter : "Lack of imagination is not an argument". There is in fact a fallacy named "argument by lack of imagination".

Enough said. I am taking earth's position, and will say no more.

Arre, I don't think Avid meant it that way, Jay, just to not worry about the nay-sayers. At least I think that's what you meant, Avidbhai?

Let me be frank - I am very much of the skepticism-is-healthy school of thought myself, and don't just believe such things on hearsay. But I did see your clip, and while the other folks might have been putting on a show for your benefit, which wud have left room for doubt in my mind, I have no reason to disbelieve you when I see you had a go yourself. But it's certainly got me curious now! Must check it out some time.
To paraphrase mazha, there might well be a logical explanation, just that we don't know what it is yet!

Quite different from the Qutab Minar story - plenty of short-armed people get their wishes too.

yes, generally agree about scientistic nay-sayers.....

but there are just as many pseudo-scientific kooks out there as well......

Hard to tell who has the better argument sometimes.....
