the amazing "kaa kaa" boulder in Kashmir?

Hello. Almost 30 years ago, on a family vacation to Kashmir, we had stopped to check out this phenomenon that we had heard about but didn't believe it would be true. Somewhere off the highway between Jammu and Srinagar, there was a temple in a large courtyard - peaceful, not at all touristy - just there to support the local village. In the courtyard was a big boulder I am guessing about 3 feet across and 1 or 2 feet high? heavy, for sure! We were told that if you get 11 people (even kids) - no more, no less. And everyone put their index finger on the underside of the rock and in unison repeat the word "kaa" and raise the rock.

We arrived as skeptics - with my engineer dad conducting the experiment flawlessly, noting all variables and conditions. We gathered some people to count up to eleven - including other kids (I was only 10 and my brother 14).

And by golly, we lifted that boulder up over our heads (at least my head) like it was weightless! We stayed and experimented - what if we say "maa maa" or anything else. Nope. What if we had 10 people - nope. I remember one person stopped saying kaa and the boulder started to feel heavy and fell down.

I know it works cause I was there - and so were others in my family - and we all recall it vividly.

I have not found any information on the net on this wonderful phenomenon. Just wondering if anyone has ever heard of or experienced this as well? Apparently, there is another boulder like this somewhere near Pune where its in a mosque and you need 9 people and you say "qamar ali darve-----sh".

You'll realize the whole thing concurs with certain theories on how the Egyptian pyramids and European dolmens and so on were built.

It's interesting alright, or at least to know that such notions are more universal even than I'd thought.

What was that last word you must utter to hoist a big rock. I think I did this one time. I was hauling a big refrigerator down the stairs and it broke loose. LOL. I likewise usually go sh* when lifting something that's too heavy for me. (Possibly invoking some deity in the process, come to think of it.) (To go ka-ka on the other hand... Hey, no wonder I don't go around constructing dolmens.)

I reckon the chap in question was a derwish (darvesh) btw. Don't ask me about the exhalated pronunciation given here, but maybe with all that lifting this becomes D-aar-veeeeeee...sh!!!

No idea. What's funny is that index finger is something that seems common in such theories. Why the pinky doesn't count -- don't ask me.

Maybe the idea is if you can pick your nose with it -- oh, whatever.
