Taxi - Jammu to Srinagar or Udhampur to Srinagar

Which is the easiest place to get a shared taxi to Srinagar.

If arriving by train is it easier to get a shared taxi from Jammu or Udhampur.

Train would arrive in Jammu at 0540
Train would arrive in Udhampur at 0805

Any suggestions......?

take it from jammu, from udhampur very few shared taxis come because of less no of passengers coming from there

Thanks for that Sunny, I thought that maybe the case. I had booked tickets to both Udhampur which is on a wait-list and one to Jammu which is confirmed. I will now cancel the ticket to Udhampur.

Hi, I would welcome advise on whether its advisable to take a taxi (not a shared taxi) to Srinagar from Jammu or from Udhampur. Also in terms of seinic beuty, is the road route or the rail route between Jammu and Udhampur better.
Also if anybody has an idea of rates from Jammu or Udhampur to Srinagar for an Innova or Xylo, I need a comfortable seven seater. Thank you

You may take a taxi to Srinagar from either of the place. Rail route between Jammu and Udhampur would be a new experience as you might not have seen this earlier. Again it would be advisable to take the rail route as you would be returning to Jammu by road from Srinagar. So, my vote goes to Jammu to Udhampur by rail, and then, either take bus or taxi to further travel in valley.

I would be flying back from Srinagar. And I saw a post in Lonely planet that suggested there are not many taxis available in Udhampur. Any views anyone?

I also want to know that whether State transport buses from Udhampur Station were available for going to Pahelgam/Srinagar. I m interested in traveling by public transport and my train reaching in morning at 8.40

As far my information goes, there are not much connectivity from Udhampur, as maximum of tourists prefer commuting from Jammu.

I would appreciate if you could share first hand experience after completing your visit. It would be a great help to other persons!

Jammu is the major transport hub from where regular bus services and share taxis are available day and night.
