Hi Friends,

Before you jump on me with the "only 3 days??" part, let me tell you that thats the prelude to me going on the kashmir great lakes trek on 21st july.

So here's the plan,
Day1: Arrive at srinagar in the afternoon 4pm.

Day2: <Suggestions please> --> Sample plan below.

Day3: <Suggestions please>--> Sample plan below.

Day4: <Suggestions please>--> Sample plan below.

Day 5: Reach the base camp @ sonmarg and trek to kashmir lakes starts.

So what can i cover in the first 3 days??

Day 1: I assume is pretty much wasted due to the late arrival. Can anything be done post 4 pm in Srinagar?

Day 2: I was thinking of doing an early morning shikara ride to see the floating market and then leave for Gulmarg. Assuming everything goes well, I'll be back in srinagar by evening. Anything to see on the way? Also any buses to go to Gulmarg (To save on some money )

Day 3: This is where I'm a little lost. What do I see in srinagar? On my list are (and in priority) Dachigam sanctuary, the Mughal gardens and Wular lake.

Day 4: Off to sonmarg and see the Thajiwas glacier. Is it worth going to Zogzi la in July. I wanted to see the road cut through ice . Not interested to see a slushy road and vehicles trapped in it.

Unable to find any information on the Dachigam sanctuary. Is the mountain bike safari still open?? And any contacts for budget hotels in Srinagar and Sonmarg please.

Cheers!
KRR

Kartik
It is hard to chose one location on the other it is all based on personal choice on what you want to do in these 3 days.
Pahalgam is a must visit place but it needs a minimum of one full day to go through the locations and a minimum of 2 nights to start enjoying nature.
You havent mentioned how you are reaching Srinagar flight/road?
One full day is more than enough to see the main locations in Srinagar, Wular lake is away from Srinagar and it is utter waste of time.

Hi Vijay,
Thanks a lot for the info.
We are reaching srinagar by the afternoon flight.

Unfortunately we won't be having any time for Pahalgam but from what I see in the pics , it essentially is a meadow. Since we are doing the great lakes trek we decided that we would be camping in such meadows and hence decided to skip it.

Do you have any information on the Dachigam Sanctuary and the Avantipur ruins. Also how much time is needed for the Mughal gardens.

Cheers,
KRR

No info on Dachigam Sanctuary, If you like Sculptures and are fond of history and heritage you can visit Awantipura. If you are travelling to Srinagar from Anantnag you can hop over and see this place.
3-4 hours is good enough for three Moughal gardens.

Day 2: Take a whole day trip to Old Srinagar City. Visit the magnificent mosques and also the Sankaryacharya Shiva Temple. Reserve 2nd half of the day for Shikara Ride. The evening tea from floating tea stall is awesome.

Day 3: As you planned for Sonemarg.

Day 4: Whole day Gulmarg trip.
