Srinagar - Leh advise for road trip

Hi,

i have plan to visit Srinagar in early September this year for a small trek. The trek is for 7 days and after which I want to spend 3 more days exploring Srinagar and Leh/Ladakh. my plan is as below

Day 1 - 7 ---> Trek
Day 8 -------> roam around Srinagar through the day and stay overnight in Dal lake house boat
Day 9 -------> take a road trip on a taxi towards Leh. Stay overnight in Kargil.
Day 10 ------> continue road trip to Leh. explore and stay overnight in Leh.
Day 11 ------> fly out from Leh

i wish i would have planned more days but unfortunately cannot. considering the itinerary, could you guys please advise the things i should do on Day 8, 9 and 10? i mean places to visit or explore. Also, should i book the house boat in Srinagar, hotel in Kargil and Leh in advance?

Looking for some good Sugegestions.

Perhaps, this is the first time someone is planning for 1 day leh trip!!!!

Is it your compulsion for such 'touch-the-Leh' trip to have flight from there? Then try to move from Sreenagar to Leh in one day (on the way spend some good time in beautiful Drass-Kargil). Else forget it, I must suggest. Spend the three days in Kashmir

Staying in house boat is someone's own choice, otherwise you can have a lake ride by sikhara.

firstly, thanks for the response! well, if i had planned perfect, i wouldn't have been here seeking help. Any suggestion on how long do i need to spend here to cover some important (which i do not know yet) places?

the question is; would one day be sufficient to fairly enjoy the 400+ kms road trip? i would most welcome any alternative suggestions to my itinerary.

Day 1-7, trekking in Kashmir and another 3 days for other palces (near srinagar).... is it fixed?

OR you are open for any 10 days plan in kashmir/ ladakh?

If first one is preferable, there are places to stay and enjoy in Srinagar, Sonemarg, Gulmarg, Pahalgaon and you can get return flight from Srinagar.

sorry, Day 1 - 7 trek is fixed. i am happy to extend my +3 days to 4. This is because my friends cannot extend beyond this.

Sonamarg is already covered by my trek. i am quite obsessed with leh/ladakh more than Gulmarg/Pahalgaon. i am thinking of dropping my Dal Lake stay and head towards Leh on Day-8. What would be the ideal itinerary from Day-8 to 11?

Day 8 ---> take a taxi to Leh. enjoy the road trip and reach Leh. Stay Overnight
Day 9/10/11 ---> explore Leh, Lamayuru and Stok Kangri
Day 12 ---> fly out of Leh

Does this make sense?

You will miss a lot charan, but as you desiring so much for Leh, I wish you a 2nd trip there and after visiting, you'll also die for the 2nd trip !!! I can bet!!!

Anyway, on the way enjoy Drass, Kargil (spectacular nature), Mulbek Chamba (the stone statue), Lamayuru (the monesraty).... There are also Alchi, Likir, Rizdong, chulichan Nunnery ... but routes diverted... It'll be not possible to cover all by you.

So rests are ok.

Even with the Srinagar-Leh road IŽd definitely plan a buffer day in Leh when you have a flight to catch. Esp. in September.

charan you should stay some days in ladakh to enjoy the beauty of this place
if you don't have that much time then quit ladakh from your itenerary
it dosen't make sense to leh for one day.
