it was mighty annoying (i was there in october) to have a phone that would not work. i was lucky, a local lent me his sim card to use for the duration of my stay. after that, it was business as usual.

My understanding is that- with the new changes effective a few days ago- if you own a prepaid card you can still use it- and top it up.
You can't buy a new prepaid connection. At least that is what a newspaper said.

I think they're trying to work that out right now. As of the last I knew, we couldn't top up our phones once they run out of time.

Yes, since 1st November new activation of SIM cards and recharge/top up are stopped. That means, no new prepaid subcribers.
Existing subscribers validity is up to Feb 2010.Existing subscribers can make calls who has TT in their account and those who doesn't have any TT left can receive calls. By Feb, existing subscribers has to switch over to postpaid. |
