Planning to visit Srinagar in October2012.

Can you please share your thoughts around this.I am planning to visit Srinagar and around in the month of Oct for a week.

Any suggestion in this regard will be highly appriciated.

7 oct Tour of Phalagam o/n
8 oct Phalagam - beetab valley , aru , chandanwari
9oct phalagam - Srinagar - Gulmarg o/n
10 oct Back to srinagar and visit Mughal Garden and shikara ride
11 Oct visit Sonamarg and back to srinagar
12 oct Departure

Can you please elaborate Cruise Ride in jehlum? What is it really? What is the cost of this cruise? In other words, it would be great help if a small write-up on this issue is presented in this forum.

Incidentally, in a separate thread, I had requested you to post names of a few Jhelum-based House Boats of budget category. I haven't received any response so far. Can we get your recommendations please? Thanks.

jehlum have not only budget houseboats and also luxury houseboats because some houseboat have shifted there houseboat from dal lake because of filthy smile from the lake water and not proper connectivity of drinking water during winter

Need you suggestions and views.
We are five adults and one kid (4 years) reaching Srinagar on 6th Oct around 1:00 PM.
This is what I planned:
6th Oct: After arrival, planning to go Gulmarg direct from Airport.
7th Oct: Will cover Gulmarg in the day and around 4:00 PM will start for Srinagar
8th Oct: Will stay in Srinagar and local sight seeing.
9th Oct: Visit Sonamarg and retuned back to Srinagar.
10th Oct: Proceed for Pahalagam.
11th Oct: Pahalagam ( adjoining areas)
12th Oct: Returned back to Srinagar
13th Oct: Return Journey

There are couple of doubts on my plan which I want to clear with the help of you all:
1) Is it fine to reach Gulmarg directly as distance b/w Srinagr Airport to Gulmarg is around 65 Km and will it be feasible for me to purchase Gondola ticktes from there itself and in case answer is Yes then Should I purchase tickets for stage 1 or 2.
2) I am going to Srinagar first time and whatever I read on IM that suggests me that I should go without any prior booking although I am not feeling very comfortable as there will be lot of touts who will not give enough space for search a suitable place to stay.
3) Should I travel by Taxi or TRC buses.
4) I want to stay in budget hotel/Guest house and cleaniness is the only priority.
5) I asked all the members to carry one jacket only will it enough apart from other normal cloths.
@Asish Da : I am expecting lot of suggestings from your side as you are the most experience person whose msg I read on IM.
I will be highly thankful to all if you please help me to finalise my trip plan.
