Planning for Honeymoon in Kashmir during May....

Hi,
I am planning to go to Kashmir for my honeymoon during mid May. I am thinking to stay there for 4-5 days. Can anyone tell me best places to stay i.e. Hotel or Houseboats, places to visit, etc. Also, will there be snow in Gulmarg during May?
How safe is Kashmir now in terms of tourism?

A mid category houseboat will cost you around Rs. 1000-2000 per day. It'll have a room with double bed and attached toilet. Food will be usually extra.

It's highly recommended to stay in a houseboat (Even if for 1/2 day). It's an experience in itself.

Good hotels too are available starting from Rs. 1000 onwards.

There may be Snow in Gulmarg in May, go up by the lovely Gondola, chances will increase.

Kashmir is 100% safe for Tourism. But you may check the Lok Sabha Election Dates and avoid going to Kashmir around election time. Tension may flare up at that time.

I'm leaving for Kashmir on the 30th of March but am spending a few days in Delhi, so probably arriving in Srinagar on the 3rd or so of April. So I'll be there during election counting. I think it'll be okay. Definitely stay on a houseboat if you can!

Now sure about counting also. If I had to go, I would have waited till the completion of whole process.

Although tourists are safe (they earn money from us)in Kashmir and the clashes,if any, are between locals and security forces.

However, as you know, India is a deeply political country and Kashmir is politically very charged up place, so election times, including counting will ensure high voltage Political dramatics.

Miscreants may also find the time ripe for some action....

Election time not advisable from my side....
