Oct 2010 Trip to Vaishnodevi and J&K

Folks.. First of all thank you for posting really useful information in the forum. I am planning a Trip to Vaishnodevi and Kashmir (Gulmarg,Pahalgam) during the second week of October after watching the opening ceremony of commonwealth games in Delhi.

Some questions to start with:

1. Oct 7th - 10th - Would it be pretty crowded in Katra?.. Given that this is Navratri time...

2. How is the season during this time in Kashmir?. Given that my parents are old - 50 and above would it be very inconvenient for them (from cold perspective)?

3. Can i find good places in Kashmir, Gulmarg and places around for Rs 1500 and is it enough to budget an extra Rs 1000 for food (Three of us) another 2500 for transport?.. i.e. around 5K per day..

Your inputs would be great.. depending on this would prepare my itinerary.. Thanks!

avinjali, Welcome to Indiamike.

Katra always has crowds. If you are going on weekends then it's generally more crowded.

Drop the Kashmir plan, situation is very fluid there. Don't risk it.

How's Bhilai, I lived there, near Civic centre ?

Trip to Kashmir

Hai sunny this is avinjali from Bhilai looking forword to Kashmir once again. I have planned a Trip to Vaishnodevi and Kashmir during the last week of december this year.

Some questions to start with:

1. How is the season during this time in Kashmir?. Given that my parents are old - 60and above and my children 7 to 11 year old would it be very inconvenient for them (from cold perspective)?

2. Can i find snowfall in shrinagar, Gulmarg or in sonmarg at this time because this is for what we are planning . Last year we went in november and enjoyed the AUTUM very much. This time our priority is to see Snowfall.

3. The accomodation in houseboat is very expensive as i heard, would it be expensive or economy, your view. Please tell me, your suggestion is very benificial and give me good guidence.Your inputs would be great.. depending on this we would prepare our itinerary.. Thanks!
