Hi, Me and my better half are planning for a delayed Honeymoon to Kashmir this April My earlier plan was to opt for all inclusive package, but after going through this forum, I have much clear picture on travelling to J@K and Holidaying in Srinagar. Thanks guys !! I am leaving Pune on 1st April Evening via Jhelum Express to reach Jammu on 3rd Afternoon. Initial plan was to travel to Srinagar on the same day via a Shared Taxi/Tempo. But considering the time taken to reach Srinagar is 7-8 hrs, it seems not possible. I have prepared a rough Itinerary and would like to have some suggestion on the same for some improvement. 3rd April : Reach Jammu Tawi St and Halt @ Jammu. Site seeing in Jammu. 4th April : Leave early morning to Srinagar. Reach Srinagar, Check in Hotel. Take a evening Shikara Ride if time permits. 5th April : Trip to Gulmargh, Site seeing around Gulmargh. Return to Srinagar late Evening. Halt at Srinagar (Hotel/Houseboat) 6th April : Trip to Pehalgam. Site Seeing around Pehalgam. Halt at Pehalgam. 7th April : Site seeing around Pehalgam. Return to Srinagar late evening. Halt at Srinagar(Hotel/Houseboat) 8th April : Trip to Sonamargh, Site seeing around Sonamargh. Return to Srinagar. Halt at Srinagar. 9th April : Site Seeing around Srinagar. 10th April : Take Flight back to home. Please share with me the prices for hiring a cab to all these places from Srinagar. Also would like to understand the possibility of reaching Pehalgam from Jammu. How good is it to travel via JKRTC buses to these places. Is weather in April good enough to enjoy the sightseeing. Vishu..

Cab generally takes 1500-100 per day. April is pretty good. It's better to take a cab than waiting for buses that too with your luggage. If you want to save some time then move to patnitop from jammu and then go to srinagar on the next day.

Can somebody advice me on this. What would be the best option? From Patnitop to Pehalgam(Via Shared Cab/Cab) Or Patnitop to Srinagar and then next day Pehalgam.(via CAB) I also understand the view during the journey from Jammu to Srinagar is worth experiencing. Wouldn’t I miss that if I move to Pehalgam from Patnitop.

How is the ATM network in the Valley? Do you have them in Pehalgam and Sonamargh or is it advisable to carry cash all the time. Also do hotel accept credit card payments?

There are ATM's in srinagar..not sure about other places. It is always advisable to carry cash because you never know when riots might take place.

There are atms in Gulmarg also - not sure about Pahalgam or Sonamarg, though, but my guess is there would be. J&K Bank at least, has a pretty extensive atm & bank branch presence here, it seems like.

Looking at your itinerary, first thing that strikes me as odd is that you are coming back to Srinagar far too many times in Between. Dont get me wrong, Srinagar is lovely, but there are so many places that deserve a night halt in such limited number of days. I created an itinerary for a colleague just last week, please go through this... * Day 1 :- Jammu 9:15 am arrival by Jhelum express. Settle into hotel, and some local sight seeing. Get plenty of sleep, long day ahead. Night halt at Jammu. * Day 2 :- Early Morning Sumo/qualis to Srinagar. LEAVE EARLY MORNING FOR LONG 300 km trip. Keep your cameras charged. Night halt at Srinagar. * Day 3:- Srinagar. After breakfast, Gardens sight seeing, Shankaracharya temple, same taxi might take you to Gulmarg. Night halt at Gulmarg. * Day 4:- After Gondola ride at Gulmarg, Taxi to Sonamarg, Approx 7 hours journey. Change taxi at Srinagar's Batmaloo bus stand. One of the most Spectacular road trips in Kashmir, on the National Highway 1D. Keep your cameras charged. Night halt Sonamarg. * Day 5:- Sonamarg sight seeing, Glacier trekking. Night halt Sonamarg * Day 6:- Early Morning, leave for Pahalgam via Srinagar. Change taxis/bus at Srinagar. Long 8 hour journey. Night Halt Pahalgam. * Day 7:- Pahalgam Sight seeing, horseback rides etc.Back to Srinagar. Night halt Srinagar.. * Day 8:- Fly back to Delhi. Take the Duronto express to Pune if you can. Even better, Do what I did. 1st AC by 2952 Mumbai Rajdhani is a nice 1 time experience, a departure from the packed food or ridiculous 150 rupee sandwiches on low cost flights. You actually choose food from a small menu, and the meal is served on proper crockery. All this while the train pounds away at 130 kph ![]() Fare is 3300 each, about the same as a flight, only more romantic :P Hope this helps. | |||

Thanks Vinay..for that update on Swaraj Express..Would definately give a thought over it. Agree with you for not halting at Srinagar for long. I changed my Itanery and would first head to Pehalgam and Halt. Would like to stay @ Gulmargh and Sonamargh as well. I hope one day is enough for sightseeing in Srinagar.

My apologies, Swaraj is 30 hours and not 20... still a better bet compared to Jhelum, which is prone to delays too.

pune to mumbai by deccan exp. then to nizamuddin by goldden temple mail. then to jammu overnight by sampark kranti or rajdhani and then to srinagar on the same day. This way you reach in 2 days and not 3..only problem is you have change trains at mumbai and delhi. | |
