Local transport (taxi/sumo) in kashmir

Dear Sleepy, Thanks for your input on the Taxi issue that only local taxis are allowed in Gulmarg and Pahalgaon. Does that mean that a Qualis from Jammu can not freely move, if that is the case do we need to hire a another cab at Pahalgam and Gulmarg. I plan to have 2 Nights at Pahalgam and 1 in Gulmarg. But as Mr. Chaterjee said would is be a better idea to just go from Jammu to Srinagar and then take a local Taxi for Sight Seeing.

If you are staying only one night at Gulmarg that should be fine. The local sight seeing in Gulmarg cannot be done in a vehicle. It mostly on pony or by walking. Also there is the superb gondola ride. So the vehicle will take you to gulmarg and then bring you back from gulmarg the next day.

If you are staying a whole day at pahalgam, you have to use the local vehicles/ponies on that day. The vehicle hired from jammu will not be allowed to be used for sight seeing. Do make this clear when you hire the vehicle and negotiate the amount you must pay for that idle day.

Thanks for the input, another 5 hours to catch the train, i got a qualis @ Rs. 1800 per day. would keep the vehicle with me from 23rd to 28th May. would keep in mind to negotiate but dont think that he would go down as there is full blooming season this time with plenty of tourist visiting all the places are fully packed and just see the flight prices the usual price is Rs. 3500 per person which now have soared upto 8k. well thanks for the info. bye and have a nice day.
