When did you visit Kashmir, in which year? I am planning a trip to Kashmir during end Sep/early Oct this year. Idea is return back to Kolkata well before Mahalaya. Did you post your Trip Report anywhere? Can you please provide the link? I would like to go through it for my planning. If you have not posted the report, can you please PM me about the accommodation, transportation, cost etc. It will be of great help. Presently I am reading Teetiana's very interesting TR and are taking note of many useful tips. Thanks.

Sorry Chetan, my quarry was meant for Bipasa, who had just commented on your trip report a while earlier. I forgot to specifically mention that. Your report is a very well written and informative TR, that's for sure and I am following this link from the very beginning. It is foolish on my part for having created this confusion.

Asishda, dnt know to whom you have asked this ....But if you want detail of our houseboat. I can give it with contact details.

We compelled to go with a travel agent as political turmoil was going over there that time & did no want to take risk to go for selfmade trip.

Still I have the info of hotels we stayed in ..& it was a package tour & we also went there last week of Oct in 2010.

My parents , uncle, aunt (5 adults) are planning to visit Kashmir during Durga Puja. Their planning is as follows

sat - evening flight to delhi, night train to jammu
sun - reach srinagar
mon - wullar lake
tues - gulmarg
wed - pahalgaon (aru , betab, chandanwari )
thurs - baisaran , reach srinagar
fri - srnagar sight seeing
sat - morning flight to delhi, night train to kolkata
sun - reach kolkata

is the plan faesible ? i read somewhere during october sonmarg is not worth a visit because there is no snow during that time ... is it true ? what shall they get from jammu to reach srinagar ?

The blue waters of Andamans have attracted me for a while now. A family trip to Konkan is pending. After seeing 10 tigers in Bandhavgarh in March, a quick trip to Tadoba beckons.

Hi Aditi,

The plan looks feasible based on my experience. I think Wular Lake can be dropped. Sonamarg would be better than Wular from whatever I have read so far. Also you should be able to see some fall colors in this dutation. You can also make a trip to the Zojila pass ahead of Sonamarg.

However I will let the experts comment more on this.

Aditi - You can do this or you can keep a day buffer in the plan. Assuming your group has some relatively senior citizens you can keep some gap after the Gulmarg day. This will also give some flexibility to the plan. Alternatively you can plan to travel back on Saturday.

I should mention here that I am just one trip old So there are others on the forum who can also chip in with their advice like Bipasha did here.

Thanks Vibhu. Do you have an email ID where I can share the details of the operator I used. Having said that you should look for some standard operators like makemytrip to do a comparison. Also you can book yourself.

I took the Indigo flight from Pune.

Wonderful Travelogue and amazing pics Chetan. You really had great time in Kashmir

We are also planning for a trip to Kashmir (sometime in late August) this year. However we are planning to do Day Trips to Sonamarg and Gulmarg from Srinagar due to shortage of time. I am not sure if Day Trip is recommended for Pahalgam from Srinagar as there are so many places in and around Pahalgam.

During our day trips to Sonamarg and Gulmarg, what would be your recommendation? Which all attractions are must visit at these places?
