Let me try something for you ...
  1. Jammu - Katra (Vaishno Devi)
  2. Katra (rest) - Patnitop
  3. Patnitop - Pahalgam (you will reach by night)
  4. Pahalgam (one day stay is advisable)
  5. Pahalgam - Srinagar (Local site seeing in half day)
  6. Gulmarg Site Seeing (including Shikara ride at Dal Lake)
  7. Srinagar - Kargil (enroute Sonamarg)
  8. Kargil - Rangdum (separate car required; Kargil registration only, unless you are on Defence Duty)
  9. Rangdum to Padum (separate car required; Kargil registration only, unless you are on Defence Duty)
  10. Padum (separate car required; Padum registration only, unless you are on Defence Duty)
  11. Padum to Parkachik (separate car required; Kargil/Padum registration only, unless you are on Defence Duty)
  12. Parkachik to Lamayuru ((separate car required; Kargil/Padum registration only, unless you are on Defence Duty)
  13. Lamayuru to Leh
  14. Rest, obtain permit
  15. Leh to Hundur/Diskit (separate car required; Leh registration only, unless you are on Defence Duty)
  16. Hundur/Diskit to Turtuk & Panamik & back to Hundur/Diskit/Panamik (separate car required;Leh registration only, unless you are on Defence Duty)
  17. Hundur/Diskit/Panamik to Leh (separate car required;Leh registration only, unless you are on Defence Duty)
  18. Leh (Local monastery tour) (separate car required;Leh registration only, unless you are on Defence Duty)
  19. Leh - Pangong Tso / Spangmik - Leh (separate car required;Leh registration only, unless you are on Defence Duty)
  20. Leh to Tso Moriri (via Mahe Bridge) (separate car required;Leh registration only, unless you are on Defence Duty)
  21. Tso Moriri - Tso Kar - Debring (More Plains) - Tanglang La (go backwards for a detour) - More Plains - Pang (N/stay) (separate car required;Leh registration only, unless you are on Defence Duty)
  22. Pang - Sarchu - Baralacha La - Keylong
  23. Keylong - Udaypur/Trilokinath - Keylong
  24. Keylong to Manali/Kulu

Not having a decent idea about approximate cost.. but I guess approx. 4000 INR per day towards transportation, if the Car is Sumo/Scorpio etc.

Hope it will help a little!

J & k tour

Revivised plan for 4 to 6 persons

1. Land at srinagar, local sightseeing. (stay)
2. Srinagar to Pahalgaon. (stay)
3. Pahalgaon - sightseeing. (stay)
4. Pahalgaon to Gulmarg. (stay)
5. Gulmarg - sightseeing. (stay)
6. Gulmarg to Srinagar. (stay)
7. Srinagar to Sonmarg. (stay)
8. Sonamarg – Zozi La – Drass – Kargil. (stay)
9. Kargil - Panikhar - Rangdum. (stay)
10. Rangdum - Pensila - Padum. (stay)
11. Pandum to Kargil. (stay)
12. Kargil – Lamayuru – Leh. (stay)
(Cover Mulbekh Maitrey, Lamayuru Moanstery, Lunar Landscapes,
On the way you can also see Gurudwara Pather Sahib, Magnetic Hills, Confluence at Nimmu)
13. Leh Local Sighseeing + Inner Line Permits. (stay)
(Local sightseeing include Namgyal Gompa, Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, Shankar Gompa, Main Market,
Hall of Fame, Spituk Gompa, Changspa Road Stroll in evening.)
14. Leh – Khardung La – Diskit – Hunder. (stay)
(Head for Nubra Valley and stay overnight at Hunder / Diskit
On the way enjoy a cup of soup at Highest Motorable Pass (as claimed) Khardung La
Diskit has monasteries with tallest lord Buddha statue and Hunder has sand dunes
and bacterian camel safari.)
About 5-6 Hrs drive, depending upon the breaks we take in between and at Khardung La.)
14. Hunder / Diskit – Sumur – Panamik. (stay)
15. Panamik - Shyok village -Pangong Tso Lake. (stay)
{Overnight at Pangong Tso (Spangmik or Lukung)
About 6-7 Hrs drive, depending upon the breaks we take in between.}
16. Pangong Tso Lake –Chumathang -Tso Moriri. (stay)
we can go to Tso Moriri from Pangong Tso directly via the remote and ever beautiful Changthang region.
The drive between Pangong Tso and Tso Moriri is one of the most beautiful drives in whole Ladakh
region. Foreigners are not allowed to go beyond Man – Merak Villages as permits are not issued to them
for this route. Hence, they need to follow the indirect, slighly longer route to Tso Moriri from
Pangong Tso. we need to mention all the places mentioned in the route below on our permit form in
order to under take this route. The route along with distance between the subsequent places is as
follows:

Spangmik (Pangong Tso) – Man (9 KMs) – Merak (12 KMs)– Khaltse (4 KMs) – Chusul (24 KMs) – Tsaga La
(33 KMs) – Tsaga Village (20 KMs) – Loma (23 KMs) – Nyoma (22 KMs) – Mahe (25 KMs) – Sumdo (10 KMs) –
Tso Moriri / Korzok (53 KMs) = 235 KMs

we need to make sure we carry fuel for about 550 – 600 KMs because we shall be covering Leh – Pangong
Tso – Nyoma – Loma – Tso Moriri – Leh without any other petrol pump. And if we want to exit Ladakh
through Manali – Leh Highway from Tso Moriri then also carry petrol/diesel for about 650 – 700 KMs as
the next petrol pump will be available at Tandi. Otherwise, we need to come back to Karu or Upshi,
refill and move back again towards Manali – Leh Highway.
17. Tso Moriri – Tso Kar – Debring (Manali – Leh Highway starts) – Moore Plains – Pang / Sarchu. (stay)
(Try to start early in the day so that we reach Sarchu where the accommodation options are better than
Pang.Overnight at Sarchu or Pang.
About 11-12 Hrs drive, depending upon the breaks we take in between.)
18. Pang / Sarchu – Baralacha La – Keylong – Rohtang Pass – Manali. (stay)
(On the way cover Suraj Tal, Deepak Tal which are on the road sides only. Overnight at Manali.
About 11-12 Hrs drive, depending upon the breaks we take in between and of course the mess at
Rohtang Pass.)
19. Manali to kulu & fly out.

I think per head cost would be Rs. 27500/ of fooding, lodging and conveyance from Srinagar to Kulu.

Is this a day by day itinerary ie continous traveling over 19 days?

If its so then its madness.

You don't require any itinerary planner; you got decent knowledge about the region!

Earlier, in your first post (of this thread), Jammu, katra, vaishnodevi & Udaypur was included
(now dropped)

Whatever ...
  • Day 14 has been written twice &
  • after Leh till Keylong (Tandi) there are no petrol pumps. (I am not sure about Petrol Pump at Karu/Upshi! I guess it is in Leh only)
  • Taxi of Srinagar not allowed in Ladakh except Srinagar/Leh drop
  • Kargil - Padum - Kargil = Separate Taxi (of Kargil Taxi Association)
  • Padum = Separate Taxi (of Padum Taxi Association)
  • Rohtang Jot is always unpredictable

Per head cost 27.5 K (for 4-6 heads) is abnormally low!

Otherwise; the plan is fine! All the best!

yes, it's certainly a mad tour but low on your pocket pinch coz it is not a honeymoon trip.

all your points are absolutely correct.
Day 14 was slight mistake on my part.
However as per my previous experiences with a bit of modest spending, i hope the tour can be wrapped off within that amount.

Arrange a bike from Srinagar till Kullu; your expenditure will be reduced by a few thousand - I guess & spend it on your hneymoon trip!

Your plan is doable but one/two buffer day was required in the hurricane trip.
You provided more time in Srinagar-Pahalgam-Gulmarg-Sonmarg.
Is it necessary to stay at Sonmarg; it can save a day!
Reaching Kargil from Padum (245 KM) in a single day will be very tiring stuff considering road conditions (no road at most of the stretches).

Hi,

Our group of 6 people is planning to visit Zanskar from Srinagar and then proceed to Leh. The itinerary is:
Day 1: Srinagar to Sonemarg
Day 2.Sonemarg
Day 3 Sonemarg to Panikhar via Kargil
Day 4 Panikhar to Padum
Day 5 Padum
Day 6 Padum to Sanku
Day 7 Sanku to Lamayuru via Kargil
Day 8 Lamayuru to Leh.

Our questions are:
1. From where can we hire a Scorpio to take us to Kargil as per the above itinerary?
2.Can we book a Scorpio from the Kargil Taxi Union for the the Zanskar to Leh section in advance or do we have to hire a taxi once we reach Kargil?
3.Is there a seperate taxi union for Padum?
4.How much is this likely to cost?
5.Any suggestions as to where to stay in Sonemarg within a budget of Rs.500/- to 600/-for a double room?

Srinagar.

Car from Kargil Taxi Union will ply between Padum & Kargil only.
3.Is there a seperate taxi union for Padum?
Yes, for local site seeing - they are the only solution.
4.How much is this likely to cost?
@ Padum = more than 4000-5000/- (p/day) for sure.
5.Any suggestions as to where to stay in Sonemarg within a budget of Rs.500/- to 600/-for a double room?
I guess, there is hardly any budget hotel to accommodate you within the budget.

Many thanks for your reply. A few more questions.
1. Do you have the contact details of the Srinagar taxi union? We would reach Srinagar airport in the afternoon and would like to go to Sonemarg without delay, hence booking a taxi in advance is what we would prefer.
2.Any suggestions regarding where to stay in Sonemarg.
3.Can we book a taxi from the Kargil taxi union in advance,if yes, how??

Hi CK/Outrigonsandeep, I am also planning the same route. Travel agents are offering me Srinagar Airpor to Leh @ around 15K. I am also trying to contact some local taxi drivers for the rate.

I am also hunting budget hotels in SOnamarg, but was not able to find any with a db room cost for less than 2.5K in web. If you find any, please share the info, will do the same from my end.

Also, is there any other place between Sonamarg and Drass, where we can opt for a night stay for less cost?

IMHO, the best option should be to reach TRC from airport. Then one should book taxi for next day morning journey. It would come cheaper.

It is not a good idea to book taxi over phone. The travel agent keep their commission also.
