Kashmir is very safe

Yes its very safe in Kashmir. Please don't listen to these stupid news channels who only spend time in either showing off Stupid swayimwars and scaring tourists for their cheap TRP ratings. There has not been a single incident against any tourist since the past one year.

So how about incidents not against tourists? Not much comfort, to a tourist, that the bullet wasn't actually aimed at them...

It is all very well to talk about the stupid news channels, but what is your interest in presenting the picture of safety?

I'd say, without having any particular interest in the area, that my impression of the media is that, yes, Kashmir is a lot safer than it has been.

But there are plenty of places in the world where we don't even have to ask the question.

I remember meeting a kashmiri family in New delhi railway station once.

Her family was requesting and infact pleading us to visit Kashmir. She said, Just dont beleive all those news channels. You come and see for yourself. I took her phone number and infact I called her on the last day of my tour and she just could not beleive that I came to kashmir trusting her words. I could still hear her shreiking in joy.

Today, I am happy that I listened to her. It is a wonderful place and you will never regret the trip.

The number of tourists to kashmir has really picked up. As Nick said, Its a much lot safer than it was before.

According to the latest update from the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the advice is:

"Do not travel to Jammu and Kashmir".

I think it is safe enough to visit. In the present time no place on earth is free from terrorist problem. If we consider Kashmir got lesser attacks than rest of India. Our cities are more unsafe rather. I am sending my mother for a 12 day trip next week. I we just avoid the place then it will never become normal.

And we Indians suggest exactly the opposite. Risk is everywhere, even sleeping on your bed do involve some risk. Most people die on their bed, statistics say so. Nothing personal.

This is the same government who didn't send their Davis cup team to play in Chennai. One of the most unsafe place for Indians right now is Melbourne.

Oops! Thanks rushie82. I agree, at lease here forces do try to protect... There are more questions, why india unsafe? who are the players? We nkow them but we better keep it out of a travel forum. They deserve their place in a political forum.

mdshah, your thoughts and input is appreciated, even if some don't fully agree, but we do ask people to use "standard" English, and to avoid chat and SMS abbreviations, please.

Really ? Comparing with Delhi : how many carbombs last months ?

How many policemen shot dead in daylight , central Delhi ? (that´s a really ghastly picture , let´s leave it from direct view )

How many grenade attacks against or immediately near tourist buses ?

How many attacks against government buildings ?

There are so many threads on safety in Kashmir that it is tough to keep up. Besides, everything has been said before.
