In Kashmir From 3rd Oct To 13th Oct 2009, Need Help

Hello friends

I will land in srinagar at 12 noon on 3rd oct …. And will depart on 13th oct at 8 o’clock in the morning…. I hope these 10 days are good enough for my first trip to heaven on earth…..

To begin with I wish to have following information:

-How will the weather be during this period? Will it be very cold??

- On Day 1, should I stay in srinagar??….. or go to pahalgam because I feel I should stay in srinagar towards the end of my trip and do gulmarg as daytrips from srinagar , or should I stay in gulmarg???
- I Also wish to do Wular lake circuit..(??) Is it a nice road trip???
- I Wish to go to Sonmarg and Kargil… Is it possible to do Kargil as a day trip from Srinagar???
- Should I stay overnight in Kargil??? Or stay overnite in Sonmarg???

Wish to do some day hikes and short walks… wouldn’t like to stay in hotels located on crowded and noisy areas ….. would love to stay in a house boat for a day or two …. Would love to eat kashmiri food ( non veg ) …. experience the local culture and lifestyle……

I request all earlier travelers to suggest an iterinary for me for the whole trip

How much would a mid-range hotel cost???
1000/- to 1500/- is fine with me

-suggest me Hotels , their tariffs and contact info would be appreciated.

-Guides in pahalgam and their contact info…..

-Reliable taxi driver and their contact info …..

And local restaurants, bakeries and dhabhas serving good Indian and western food…

And, areas in which I should use the local transport to save the taxi cost….

Thank you all in advance for your suggestions

And hey! If any one is visiting during the same period as mine then may be we can share the taxi and also make a team for a short trek…!!!!!

And my journey has just begun….. cheers

Hi goodfriend,

In Rs. 1000 to 1500, you will get a luxury hotel in Srinagar.. Not a budget one..

btw, if interested, you can go through the contact details in my blog - I've given most of the details.

In case you need any further info, do not hesitate to contact me..

hi

i arun

i had read your blog earlier, and read it again now, i am sure information in you blog will help me a lot to make my trip nice,

since you have been to kashmir earlier, i wish you to make an iternary for me....

i hear that staying in houseboat has lost its charm, dal lake has foul smell, and lot of vendors trouble you in the house boat??? is it true???

i have been reading a lot about pahalgam on the net and lonely planet, i would like to spend more time there and do some short treks, brown palace is a very popular place, and on this website iread about himalaya house in pahalgam, can you suggest me where should i stay in pahalgam, i do not wish to stay in crowded and noisy area....

more later

cheers

Hi Good friend,

Thanks for reading the blog.

I would suggest this way.

3rd Oct - visit tulip garden, seshmashahi & parimahal in srinagar
4th Oct - Go to Gulmarg - a day trip
5th Oct - Visit Shankaracharya Temple, Mughal Gardens, Hazaratbal shrine in Srinagar
6th Oct - Visit Sonamarg - day trip
7th Oct - Pack off to Pahalgam - Spend two days there
8th Oct - Pahalgam
9th Oct - post lunch, proceed to Srinagar and stay in houseboat
10th Oct - Houseboat - shikara ride and day trip in Srinagar
11th Oct - Wular lake or some off beat location
12th Oct - Another offbeat location.
13th Oct - Depart from srinagar

You can go through the thread started by Balvar.

Tulips garden wont have nay tuilps at this tikme of Year, Further u can plan to visit Cheshmashi and Haravan & pari Mahal in arnd srinagar. and i Stringly recommend nageen lake as to Dal, from Nageen takre ride to Dal gate thru the old channels of the lake.
Furhter on way To Gulmarg aslo take a pony ride up to Khalinmarg, which nearby. and on way to Pahalagam stop over at Awantipura Ruins and take a edtour for Kokernag & Verinag, if possible for Arahabal Falls also. Sonmarg in Oct ?? is questionable. also from Sringagar u can move to Ganderbal and then to manasbal lake and from there on to wular lake.
