how to get from dehra dun to srinagar

i have five days to spent jammu and kashmir. would love to know what is the best possible way to get there - another option is go via manali is that worth it?

You could use this daily train to get to Jammu Tawi, from there a bus or taxi to Srinigar

4609 HEMKUNT EXP *HARIDWAR JN 17:50 JAMMU TAWI 04:20
Costs

2AC 890
3AC 640
Sleeper 238

You will have to try the Takatal Quota though, as this train is waiting listed through all the classes

Taktal will cost you and extra 310 rupees on the price of a ticket!

If you transit through Roorkee a couple of hours away there are these train options

2331 HIMGIRI EXPRESS *ROORKEE 03:22 JAMMU TAWI 12:45

3151 JAMMU TAWI EXP *ROORKEE 20:36 JAMMU TAWI 08:50

There is NO foreign Tourist Quota on these trains ans all are wating listed in all classes though only waiting lists of 1 or 2 on some dates!

Due to summer holidays getting a train reservation will be very difficult. Your only hope is the tatkal scheme so log in early morning and book your ticket.
Jammu to Srinagar is a long bus journey. Since you have only five days you may opt for flying one way at least i.e Jammu to Srinagar.
The qickest way ofcourse is to take the overnight train from Haridwar to Delhi & fly to Srinagar.
With such a limited time at your disposal doing the Manali-Srinagar journey is not recommended at all.
