Hi Friends... Can anyone help me on the below queries? My family wants to enjoy snow. We have planned a trip to Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam on June end or July first week of this year (2011).

1)Which is the best option:
(I have to reduce one day from my itenarary. Either Pahalgam or Gulmarg or Sonmarg or Srinagar. Plz help me to take a right decision).

2 Night Gulmarg, 1 Night Pahalgam, 1 Night Sonmarg or
1 Night Gulmarg, 2 Night Pahalgam, 1 Night Sonmarg or
2 Night Gulmarg and 2 Night Pahalgam.

Reg Srinagar - will reach in the morning, then Dal lake, Shikara tour and stay in houseboat on day 1 and mughal gardens, masjid, temple local sightseeing on day 2. Is that worth to stay in srinagar for 2 days?

2) How these places will be in June end and July 1st week?
3) Please let me know the best and shouldn't be avaoidable places while touring here. Am planning for a package tour.

Just want to enjoy snow. Please friends. Let me know so that I can custimize the pack.

Hi & Welcome to IM,

I am not too sure you will see much snow in June/July as that is summertime in Kashmir from what I can gather.

Dear

The second option is fine 1 night Gulmarg 2 nights Pahalgam and 1 night Sonamarg.
Am sure you can touch and play with snow at Gulmarg Stage 2 Gandola and Thajiwas Glacier Sonamarg.

Regards

Sunny

IMO sonamarg>pahalgam>>>gulmarg.
It's kind of ok if you skip gulmarg in summer(ofcourse the scene is different for winters).
Sonamarg is THE best place.
Infact even a day trip to gulmarg would do..go early in te morning because it's really beautiful in the soft light and return after sunset because sunsets too are nice. But dont skip pahalgam or sonamarg.

I have visited Srinagar & around 3 times. I'd advise staying in Srinagar 2 days so that you can really experience life on Dal lake & see the moghul gardens, temple, masjid etc without rushing.
As for Gulmarg, I agree with ashwinnaagar, you can easily do it in a day trip from Srinagar-about 2 hours drive-& this would give you enough time to go on the gondala & hopefully see snow. Personally I don't think it's worth staying the night there.
I've also visited Sonamarg in 1 day from Srinagar-about 3 hours drive. You can take ponies to see the glacier. It is beutiful there so maybe is worth staying 1 night.
My favourite place is Pahalgam & I would definitely recommend staying 1/2 nights here. Ther are several places to visit nearby - Betab Valley, Aru, Chandanwari (not sure if there will still be snow in June/July) The scenery around Pahalgam is absolutely stunning, I'm sure you will enjoy some time there.
Best wishes for a great trip.
