Delhi -Manali-Leh-Kargil-Srinagar road trip

Me and my friend have finished the bike trip and visited all the places as planned before. Really greatful to IM guys who helped us out with valuable information.

Though we choose the safest time of the year to do the trip I now know that there is nothing called "safe" about this route and the time period selected by anyone. Anything is possible. Manali Leh was pretty easy where we got to enjoy the ride and eventually ended up underestimating the Khardungla - Sundar route.

On our return journey we got caught up in snow and were stuck for 2days and 2 nights in North Pullu army camp. Though Army is not allowed to offer shelter to civilians in their camps seeing our miseries some sentries offered help. Thanks to those humble guys without whose help we surely would have ended up having frost bite or something.
Very untimely but Khardungla was coverer in snow for 3 days continuously and we had to push our bikes for around 3.5 km at the top in 1 feet snow. Had few punctures but other than that our bikes supported up all the way.

Leh to Kargil was nice but one thing for sure if anyone does the Manali - Leh route, after this the Kargil -Srinagar- Jammu route is pretty boring.

This without saying was the most beautiful trip of my life so far. The beauty of it can not be expressed in words or through pictures. I would surely suggest everybody to do this. Now I am very much determined that I will be doing this again next year.

Sincere thanks to all the Army guys who helped us.

Peace,

Trancemania

We were two guys and on our enfields. We did carry puncture kit but once the kit was of no help. Luckily the nearest puncture shop with some B- grade tubes was 4 hours away I met people on bikes like Karizma and Pulsar and they had a smooth ride. Well as a Enfield fan I guess the comfort and the power was missing. It's just different when you just hear the thump of your Bullet in the open road against the wind. You just wish that the journey never ends and truely I was not intent on arriving.

Bikes are available for hire in Manali. I do not have much info. about this as we both had our own bikes.

Hi Thank you for your reply.

Do you have any contact number for Bikes in Manali, I am visiting Manali in 2nd Week of Feb, considering winter I am not targeting to goto Leh but I would visit Kangra Welley and other off-beat rout on Bike.

Regards

Tey charge you around Rs.600/day...during peak time. The price also will depend on your bergaining skill and the condition of the bikes. For sure if you want to pick up a Royal you have to check it's condition/I have uploaded some photos in a/c which I guess will encourage you.

Try here, Vijay fixed my Enfield when I was on my way through Manali in July. While I was there a guy returned a bike he had hired off Vijay

Nice and COOL pics man, I am wondering how were you able to manage to drive in this much snow. Actually I have never drove in Royal Enfield, I drove Pulsar 180, Karizma and Yamaha. I dont have expirence driving in this region. Sometimes I drove bikes in Sayadri Hills (Matheran, Lonavala, Malshej).

Thank you Mike for your, that information will really help me.

Regards
Rushi

I've ridden in western Countries on a bike but Kashmir in the winter? On a bike? Nuh-uh! One encounter with black ice on the way to Kargil and you are buzzard food. Maybe with a chase car anbd trailer. I'm planning a bike trek on enfield from Jammu to Darjeeling. Kashmir to Jammu is hairy. We will trailer the bikes down to Jammu from Srinagar. I'll wait until at least May for that trip. Further south I would go on a bike trip in December or January..Good Luck
