Confusion, confusion & confusion - November in Srinagar
Hi all
Returned from Srinagar last month & have absolutely fallen in love with the place. Now we wish to see Kashmir at the beginning of the Autumn when the Chinars are red & on fire. Have booked the air tickets from the 3rd to the 6th of November. Now Im really confused between Plan A & Plan B
Plan A
Land at Srinagar on 03/11. Straight away proceed to Pahalgam for a stay at Hotel Pahalgam.
04/11 - Sightseeing at Pahalgam
05/11 - Leave Pahalgam for Srinagar. Stay at Best View houseboats.
06/11 - Check out from Houseboat to take flight back home
Plan B
Land at Srinagar on 03/11. Straight away proceed to Gulmarg to stay at Hotel Highland Park.
04/11 - Leave Gulmarg to stay at Best View houseboat at Srinagar.
05/11 - Relax at Srinagar & see the Red Chinars at the gardens
06/11 - Check out from house boat to take flight back home.
Which one of the 2 is a better option. My sole purpose of this visit is to see the red chinar. What is the preference of the forum?

It depends on the time of arrival at Srinagar. If you reach there in morning, I would suggest you to proceed to Pahalgam. Else, you may stay for the day at Srinagar and visit the gardens to enjoy the beauty of Red Chinars! It would be best viewed during evening and morning!
For morning visit you can spend next morning again at best appearing garden and then proceed either to Pahalgam or Gulmarg!

Thanks for the reply Prakaant. I would like to keep the 5th night in Srinagar so that I dont have to worry about reaching the airport in time for the flight as coming from either Gulmarg or Pahalgam directly to the airport would be taking too much of a chance. My predicament is basically 2 N at Pahalgam & 1 night at Srinagar or 1 Night at Gulmarg or 2 Night at Srinagar. I have neither been to Pahalgam nor to Gulmarg though Srinagar is well explored but in spring. I would like to know what kind of views one can expect at Pahalgam & at Gulmarg at that time. Are the Chinars also at these 2 places ?

You are cramping yourself in such a small program. Hence this confusion. You could reschedule it in the following manner:
Land at Srinagar on 03/11. Stay at Srinagar, enjoy the beauti there. Night stay at Srinagar.
04/11 - Morning enjoy the beauty of Srinagar. Proceed to Pahalgam at around 8:30 or 9 in the morning. Sightseeing at Pahalgam. Night stay at Pahalgam
05/11 - Leave Pahalgam for Srinagar around afternoon. Night stay at Srinagr.
06/11 - Check out from Houseboat to take flight back home

Thanks again Prakaant. Well I have relocated & am quite close to Srinagar & hence I have the luxury of having many trips to Kashmir. Since not too many leaves at my disposal thats why the programs are short. Your itinery seems quite reasonable but can Pahalgam be covered in a day ? I thought that Gulmarg has little to offer for more than a day & hence option B. What type of scenery would be expected at Gulmarg & Pahalgam in November 1st week. Red fiery Chinar or shredded leaves autumn ?

Whole valley keeps offering beauty all year around and you will always be enthralled in all the seasons. Hence, in stead of asking, just visit the places you wish to and you would love going there regularly!
You are lucky, you have relocated to nearer place, hence, you would get opportunities to visit the place at your will!!
