What is your budget?
High end hotels:
KC Residency
Fortune Inn Reviera
Hotel Asia
Hari Niwas Palace

Mid range hotels:
Swagat
Diamond
Vivek

There is a long line of low and mid budget hotels in the lower Gumat area leading up to the Raghunath temple. The rates are negotiable. Most have AC and air-cooled rooms. Some have only AC.
Expect to pay INR 800 - 1000 for an AC room.

Their are some real cheapies near the bus stand such as Nek hotel and others in the vicinity.

I have to advice that drinking in the revolving restaurant in KC is not a pleasurable experience....you spin around and not because of the drinks.

There is this other thing of waiters shoving a feedback form at you and then accosting you if you dare to pen in an adverse comment...needless to say, you have to amend it.

Decent rooms though.

Which month are you coming?
All the budget hotels are lined up along the same road - about 1 km stretch - that goes from Jewel cinema to Bus Stand to Denis Gate to Raghunath temple.
Several hotels in this area will have rooms for INR 600. You have to negotiate with them. Do not agree to pay the published tariffs. Insist on a discount.

Hotel Diamond finds mention in the Lonely Planet, but only because of poor research on their part.

It will be hot and humid in Jammu in July - but more pleasant if it rains. Go to the bus stand from the station, start with hotel Vardaan and Swagat on the left, and a long row of hotels on the right, starting with Jagdamba, Broadway, all the way up to Jammu International near the famous Raghunath Temple. You'll surely find a room that you like.

There is also a street called upper Gumat which starts from the Raghunath temple and has many low budget hotels in the side alleys.
