anyone in or coming to Srinigar?

I'm in Srinegar now and am really hoping to connect with other English-speaking tourists. I'll be here perhaps 5 more days--if anyone would like to meet up to, um, speak English and share costs (of a guide, etc.), I would be so happy. (P.S. I'm female and not interested in dating.)

The nights are still pretty cold but the days are warming up more and more i think personaly, it is the perfect weather as while wearing long cloths to cover up it is better that it is not to hot!!

In 4 days Im in Leh.
Thinking of heading to Srinigar afterwards... daddy would probably shit a brick considering what is said and what happens in Kashmir. But its quite a dream location, and from what Ive been reading, its like being in the Basque countries (although ETA is never interested in victims).

Yay or nay? What do you all say?

I don't think you can either say 'yay' or 'nay' when it comes to Kashmir, Vagabond.

The situation changes daily - sometimes it seems to go quiet and you think 'maybe I'll go this time' and next thing you're hearing about multiple deaths in a bombing.

I will go one day but it'll only be after serious scrutiny of the news and (more importantly) chatting to lots of people who've just got back. Preferably people who aren't trying to rent you a houseboat.

Loon - Is 1500 to 2000 rupees a night the going rate? I always thought you could stay in a houseboat for quite a bit cheaper. I remember volga_volga posting a photo of a palatial place that only cost Rs. 350 a night or something. Have prices risen dramatically now that the tourists are slowly coming back?

cool!!

so if u see someone with black inline skates (well, whether i wud be carrying them in my hands or actully rolling around really really depends on the condition of the roads out there ) on.....someone slim, spectacled and freaky...thats me...just call out Amyl and then we two can enjoy Veg Momos at Koyonoor(recommned by MountainGirl)
