accom in gulmarg

hi we are a group of 5 going skiing in glumarg next week. just wondering if its worth booking some accomodation in advance on the net?

also any expeirences of the hotels there? we're tossing up between budget and nice accom.

Green HeightsView HotelThe backpackers choice!
The Green Heights provides a perfect solution for backpackers seeking accommodation close to the slopes. Big rooms and friendly staff.

In summer we rate the Green Heights as a mid-range accommodation facility. It is degraded to economy class in winter as there is no running water in taps. The staff provide hot bucket (Indian style shower) for washing. We book accommodation in the Green Heights only in winter, December 1st to April 10th.
Accommodation Class: economy class
Walking distance to gondola base: 3 minutes.
Room facilities: shower (hot bucket, Indian style shower) and toilet, woodstoves for heating, dish TV with an internal DVD channel.
Additional services: laundry.

are the showers really that bad? and are the rooms warm (with the woodstoves??

HilltopView HotelThe Hilltop Hotel is the closest high class hotel to the gondola base. In winter, it is convenient for those skiers who like to be first on the slopes… with no hassles. Besides this, the Hilltop offers one of the best accommodation facilities in Gulmarg with a friendly staff and plenty of monkeys to go around…
Accommodation Class: high-end.
Walking distance to gondola base: 3 minutes.
Room facilities: central heating, shower and toilet, dish TV and phone.
Additional services: international phone calls, laundry, restaurant, fast food restaurant, mini spa and disco.

seems like a big difference in prices - considering we are skiing all day - is a bit of luxurg worthwhile?

thanks in advance.

Salaam Alaikum Heathmont,
Just returned myself. Awesome snow this year- so much so that we were stuck in Srinagar for 3 days. No flights or road out! Stayed at Pine Palace (it's not) because it was the only place i could book online. Expensive and the central heating is unreliable- depends on the guys getting out in the snow and cutting wood by hand each day! 3 people/5 days with 2 meals was Rs.23000! Good position by Gondola- ski in ski out. Doing it again i'd just turn up and shop around like elsewhere in India, it's not that booked up.
Anyway have a great time! Wish i was there still!

I was there last week and stayed in Heevan Retreat. Nice place with central heating etc. It cost me Rs.1800 per night not incl food. It is abt 1 km away from the gondola ... kinda annoying to drag your skis that far.
