yoga and dancing

Hello.

I am going to be living in Jaipur, beginning in May, for several months. I was wondering if anyone could shed light on places to take yoga and/or gypsy or traditional indian dance in the area. Is that available?

Thanks!

Daiva

There are many possibilities - we'll be happy to suggest something when you come and meet us in May!

I'm about to start yoga and dance classes here next week. I'll be here until mid-april so maybe I'll see you. I'll try to get you the scoop on how the classes go in the meantime.

If you're interested in going to Pushkar there's a western girl there teaching a few styles of dancing - her website is http://www.colleenashakti.com/ . She does a performance at the Sai Baba Haveli once a week which is also great - a group of Rajasthani dancers and musicians also perform, and (the few times I've been there), everyone's welcome to join in at the end
Lots of fun and free too (the food's great though if you're peckish )

There is more info on this thread if you'd like a look. Dancing in Rajasthan

thanks!

Thanks for the website/contact AND the previous IM link. Awesome. Looks really awesome. Now I just need to figure out how far away that is from where I'll be based...hehehe...

*dancing around on tippy toes singing 'I'm going to India! I'm going to India!*

literally.

It's not far - from Jaipur there are a few buses and a few more trains each day. I think on the fastest train it's <2 hours to Ajmer, and then another half hour or so on the bus.. worth the trip out anyway, in my opinion

just looked it up

Thanks! I just looked it up...looks very interesting. I'm not actually in Jaipur yet. I will be there in March and will be living there, working at Neerja International. I'll have the weekends to take trips and check out India. I'm so excited. I will definitely check iskcon out.

As for the yoga: Just found out that my hostess signed me up for yoga classes every morning at 5am! Kinda early, but wow, how wonderfully thoughtful of her! So, yoga is taken care of. Yay. Now, I'll just stay open to finding some dance classes...perhaps yoga is enough for the moment and dance will come later.
