The Raj Mandir
The Raj Mandir
Hi guys
I was thinking maybe to visit this famous cinema in Jaipur next time I'm in India (I'm a big movie fan although have only recently seen my first Bollywood movie)
So a few questions...Do they only show Hindi movies? What about English subs? There's just no way I'm sitting in a cinema looking stupid not knowing what's happening on screen, how daft would I look!

Hello Again Spud!
To answer your questions - Yes, Rajmandir will show only Hindi movies - no exceptions. Never heard any in the last 40+ years of existence (and I'm not 40 yet - but my parents saw the theater open). They did get it refurbished somewhat in 2008 so worth an experience. No subs, either. Quite a few people come in, soak in the art-deco interiors, watch half a movie and leave.
On my last visit, there were actually a group of Americans who didn't understand a word (movie: Singh is Kiing) but sat there for the fun of it all.
Oh, and if i recall correctly, you owe me an onion kachori / or perhaps a lassi (remember our last threads)

Hi Vaibhav arora
Maybe if I sit at the back, no one will see me & make fun... or if I go see a mindless action film where dialogue isn't important..(I'm guessing Indians don't actually make mindless action fims, but I don't know?) It would be a shame to miss out, as I'd quite like to see how it compares (but not quality wise) with UK cinemas - I bet the cost of the food isn't double the actual screening price!
Yes, of course I remember the lassi...I haven't forgot

some points inline..(I'm guessing Indians don't actually make mindless action fims, but I don't know?)
we do now, unfortunately. OTOH, we have a few movies now that are quite the 'formula' flicks. Singh is kiing e.g. was shot in Australia and didnt require much language skills to understand. Perhaps when you're around, drop me a note and I can let you know if the movie is too intense or worth the price of admission given your special disability in this circumstance !

Else, you can alway smuggle in food from either the kachoriwala next door OR the Mcdonalds !

Cool, let's catch up this time around perhaps?
