Solo Female Traveler-Elephant Festival/Holi in Jaipur

I am a solo female traveler planning on going to the Elephant Festival and Holi in Jaipur. I heard the Holi is rather dangerous for women on their own so I was interested in finding other travelers who might want to join as well.

Hello there,

Fellow Indiamikers Spud (from the UK) and one more person from UK whose handle eludes me right now are planning to catch up on holi and the elephant festival in Jaipur. This will be in old city, Jaipur. the plan is for sight-seeing and photography.

If you would like to join us, msg us closer to the date pls.

You're right about Holi being dangerous for women (mostly its unruly collegiates or schoolboys who will can forcibly try to put some color on you...)I will try to dig out the precautionary thread I had written something on later as well.

The elephant festival is a good, stage managed affair on part of the tourism department ... so that should still be good.

thanks.
Vaibhav

Me and my boyfriend will also be in Jaipur for Holi! we wanted to visit the elephant festival the day before too.

I'm concerned about going out as a western woman, I keep reading horror stories about foreign travellers' experiences, but I'm trying to not let it put me off. I'm game for the paint throwing, bring it all on! I'm sure the groping is nothing that me and my fella can't fend off with a firm elbow to the stomach.

I'm wondering if attending a smaller/low key holi celebration in Jaipur would be more sensible, but we have no family or friends there. Any hints?

Pazz: Me and my mate are going to be there for Holi and the Festival. You can kick around with us if you like. He is Australian, I am an American living in Australia for many years. Two males, first time to India, well-traveled, just decent mellow people in general who are tolerant of all and any.

@ myra- not to my knowledge but i will double check and post closer to the date (first week of march). A few of us are just planning to meet up. Let me know if you're interested to join via email or pm

(I am thinking of this now as there're already 6 people so it'd be a good idea to have a meet-up spot. The venue is spread out.)

where did you book? Don't have to tell me the name of the place, but where abouts is it? I am finding very limited places that take bookings online. There are a lot actually, but limited ones near the old/walled city. Any suggestions?
