Real budget hotel for backpackers

Hey IMers!

Could anybody recommend a good budget hotel in Jaipur? By budget hotel I mean a place for backpackers in range Rs. 500-800. Except for Hotel Pearl Palace I was only able to find quite expensive heritage hotels and guesthouses

Thanks a lot for your help!
Petra

Hotel Arya Niwas has a good reputation, the rates start from INR 800 for a single.

hi

Arya Niwas at Sansar Chandra Road is a good option. What dates do you travel? Ask for off season discounts during the monsoon.
Another option is Hotel Karni Niwas behind Ganpati Plaza.

Heard about a place called Chitchat (but didn't stay there) and they had a nice eating place. It is in Bani Park close to the station. I only had dinner there.

I'd recommend Hotel Evergreen if you put importance on a spacious room, and would like to meet other backpackers. But you have the hassle with autos, and gemstores outside.

The only budget place within the citywalls is the Kailash. Depending on what you want to do this is a good option right on Johari Bazar St. You have a lot of things in walking distance and do not need to bother with autos to and from the hotel. That is a great pro for me. The rooms are a bit small, but manageable.

Thanks for suggestions. We will be traveling at the end of August. Will it still be possible to bargain off season discounts? Is the city crowded by tourists at this time?

Thanks!

Stayed at the Evergreen years ago and was full of other travelers in march when I was there. Don't know about August though. Large place, cheap rooms, restaurant and now appearantly a pool. If you want to meet others, it's a good place to stay.
